This is just a sampling of over 60 forum members.  It is statistically insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

In a given concert, there are already 50,000 people.

In first week sales in the USA, 840,000 snagged HTDAAB while only 480,000 snagged NLOTH.  That's almost 400,000 people who are unaccounted for.

The results of this poll would be an accurate reflection of the sentiments of the active members in this forum.  But it is by no means representative of what's happening in the real world.

Cheers,

J

There actually is a glimmer of a point in this. Just ignore the sales numbers and the fact nobody expected this to be the final word since 60 forum members hardly account for the tiniest piece of the U2 fan pie.

Moment of Surrender is the better song. It's my favorite off of No Line. And sales don't matter. Grammys don't matter either.

'Sometimes' is a towering song with powerful singing a perfect back up instrumental playing from Edge, Adam and Larry. The production is top notch. The song is'nt too long and was released as the second single in the UK. Reaching number 1. It also won a grammy. MOS is good, but not as good.

I personally think Moment of Surrender was over-hyped...I mean, "one of the best things U2 has ever done"
That's a bit much...

Sometimes the best songs are never hyped they just happen.

Moment of Surrender is the best song on NLOTH. No contest from Sometimes..., though I do love the song.

Reminds me of Bad in some sweet, beautiful way. :D

No way does it remind me of Bad, although I respect your opinion.  To me, Moment is a great song but it sounds musically like a failed attempt at All I Want is You and lyrically like a failed attempt at Running to Stand Still.

Sometimes might be the greatest lyrical masterpiece U2 has created and it musically is amazing and in general is so much better

Moment of Surrender has grown on me a lot - I really like it now, despite the forced singing at the beginning and the "ATM Machine"...rock lyrics don't have to be grammatically correct, or have perfect syntax or anything, but *argh* redundancy makes me so angry...next their going to sing about nucular bombs...anyway, MOS is a great song!  I love the solo - sounds like Lanois to me - and the bass playing is wonderful.  Sometimes...is one of my least favourite U2 songs.  The bridge is terrible; it is so out of place and completely kills the momentum, nevermind move the song UP the way they wanted to.

The lyrics are personal to Bono, but they're also pretty simple and straightforward. There's no real mystery to them, and I can think of dozens of U2 songs with better lyrics. For me, anyway.

THe fact that they are so personal, straightforward and simple make the song great in my opinion...  agree to disagree

had to enter quick-
dreary rainy Sunday here in CT USA-

SYCMIYO to me was that personal side that I love about a poet or songwriter, especially Bono! ;D
Anyone can write a song or direct a movie, but when plot or story is close to what the writer has experienced personally, then it typicially would translate into a powerful piece!

Find me an audience member that didn't enjoy B hitting that high opera type note and I'm sure there will be no pulse.

SYCMIOYO is an A-

MOS for me is a B+. The 'flat tire' sound of the beat in the beginning is interesting.
They lyrics are certainly not even close to a song like One, it does have some nice touches-
Folded to my knees
I did not notice the passersby and they did not notice me
at the Altar of the dark star
But then it can be hindered by, let the horses run free or tying oneself with wire-

ISHFWILF is an A
lyrically and musically, especially the live 'gospel' version

and that leads to...
One is an A+
NO QUESTION, NO DEBATE! inmho~~

SYCMIOYO - not a fan of drum machines...that was easy.

What drum machine?  ???

Anyway, I voted for a "tie" simply because I haven't had as much time with MOS compared to Sometimes.
