How about just Brian Eno.  Already halfway a band member, good songwriter, can play keyboards, can do backing vocals, etc.

Why didn't I think of that?  :D

I agree with Eno or Lanios, even though they are unofficial members at this point.

From other bands I would likely choose Chris Martin. He is truly the next great frontman of music. He has amazing energy live, he can play piano and very well, he can play the guitar, very well. He can also sing really well. He is like a Bono who is talented  ;)

I just see him fitting in with these guys. And would be great with the guys.

Tom Morello's a pretty awesome guitarist.  Can't think of any good keyboard players off the top of my head - that would be needed more.

These people would add to the band:
Elton John.  I wouldn't let him sing, though - just play the piano and stay quiet.
Tim Rice-Oxley.  Great pianist from Keane.  I think I'd take him over the above.
Bob Geldoff.  I think the shows could use a bit more politics.
Tricky.  He'd certainly bring a different sound to the table.
Andy Diagram.  He's the trumpeter from James.  He really adds to some tunes nicely.
k-os.  He sings, he raps, he's got taste and rhythm - he'd compliment the singer nicely.
Shirley Manson.  That'd be a lovely accompanying female voice.
Manu Chao.  He does so much.  I think just the mix of ideas he'd bring would be great.

These people would compliment the band (since there's already a guitarist):
Johnny Greenwood.  He makes his guitar speak differently.
Jack White.  He keeps kids guitar talking straight, but he gets so much out of it.

So out of these, my nominees, I guess I'd take Tim Rice-Oxley.  I think he'd mesh best with the band and could play along to U2's back catalogue quite seamlessly.

How about one the U2 sons, that would work perfectly.

  • Shall we go, you and I while we can?
Eno is the most obvious choice, especially since it seems he is almost like a fifth member anyway...If we are going to add a female (which I think is an idea that could really breathe life into U2 and give them a third wind), my choice would be Neko Case, great vocalist, great songwriter and her voice would really compliment Bono's.

An intriguing choice would be Trent Reznor. Multi-instrumentalist, but mostly keyboards, could infuse interesting ideas into the band musically.

If we are going for a second guitarist, I would pick Tom Morello.

Interesting thread...

Regine Chassagne  ;)
She would bring a bit of glamour to the show, maybe Adam could retire to the "underworld" and we could have Regine bring out some funky instruments to please the crowd , she would also offer a pleasant distraction in the event of the Bonoman shifting into monologue mode !
