Doesn't he always?
I think he just wants to see how long edge can play the intro riff before his hand cramps!

I saw U2 for the first time back in the '80s.  He was making speeches then.  He's always been making speeches.  It's who he is.

A good 5 minutes before One on the Chicago DVD. I have no problem with him preaching: write into newspapers, have commercials on Tv, have a website, but DON'T use 5 priceless minutes at a concert to preach to fans who spent their hard earned to watch music. The only reason I say this is because I had to spend $200+ on my tickets for Chicago, and if you think about it, if they play 22-25 songs, thats about $9 a song. Use that 5 minutes to play another song for Chirst's sake. I love you Bono, but come on!

My point is that a Bono speech is part and parcel of the U2 live experience--like it or not.  If it really offended me during the Unforgettable Fire tour, then I would never have gone to another show.

I have an idea--why doesn't everyone whoop and chant "rock and roll!!!" during the speech?  If people drown him out, then Bono will shut up and the atmosphere will be much more appropriate--just like a Kid Rock concert.

I love the background synths of the One speech from Vertigo Tour. It's ethereal, moody, ambient...heck yeah! ;D
