'Thanks' to LiveNation?!?!
« on: July 13, 2009, 11:33:27 AM »
I finally was able to listen to the audio of the first show and couldn't believe the props that Bono gave to LiveNation.  Something along the lines of 'thanks for allowing us to have our dreams come true'.  Come on now.  It is U2 making music and the fans responding that make all of 'our' dreams come true, not LiveNation.  It is OK to be humble but that is ridiculous.  Maybe Noel Gallagher was onto something in what he said.

I thought you people wanted "intimacy" - this is the equivalent of a bar band saying "tip your bartenders and waitresses".

I think they had to thank them for fronting them about $50,000,000 to pay for the stage and basically making the tour happen.

It was a bit worse at Paris. He thanked Universal, Live Nation and Blackberry.

Did Live Nation really put up $50m dollars? I guess that's worth a thank you or two.

I hope to God that they also thanked the 90k fans. I understand that without all the money those corporations represent, along with the contracts signed means that they would more than likely do a shout out to them but I was just at the Green Day concert which was also backed by Blackberry and I know I did not hear them thank Blackberry-- they thanked the fans.
