I have been rewatching the Letterman performances...and listening to a bootleg or or 2 of the Euro leg. Almost daily. For a month...very excited...shows 3 and 4 in my short U2 concert history.

I know you said 'mentally' but I'm integrating my preparations.

First, I began a weight lifting/cardio program in March when I got the tickets. That's moved along nicely.
Then I listened to all the albums I have over and over until I knew them backwards. Then I found other music so U2 would be fresh the night of the concert.
I learned a bunch of U2 songs on guitar so if I get very lucky I can go onstage as a guitarist <fingers crossed>.
I've read and reread U2 at the End of the World, U2 by U2, Bono by Mischa Assaya and all the magazine articles I could find.
I went to see "It Might Get Loud" both to reinforce my excitement, and to have something less lame to say if I meet The Edge.  :D

Now I'm praying for sunshine and less construction in Chicago. Not sure which is more likely. ???

What I have NOT done is look at any boots of the shows past the Nice one. Don't read setlists. I don't want to know what the claw is going to do, nor what the next song will be.

Hope this helps!

Listening to all of the U2 in my iTunes library, but especially my 360 playlist (includes all the songs they've played on the tour so far, and those which have been rehearsed as well). It's not like I don't already know the words, but hey, you can never have too much U2. :P I've been watching some live video - not too much, as I don't want to spoil it, but enough to get myself hyped up. Oh, and I've been trying not to randomly explode into fits of 'OH MY GOSH I'M SEEING U2' and thus freaking out everyone else in the house. :P

Very good! I was looking for assurance I wasn't going overboard...but I think you're right...you can't have too much U2.

Side note...I have been wanting a U2 tattoo for a while and MAY include that in my preps...I'd say its about a 50/50 chance.

I like the idea of a U2 motivated/themed workout for the upcoming gigs...a little late for me to start now I suppose.

Well, they are returning next year, which will hopefully keep me motivated to continue!
Even if you just start doing some cardio and stretches, it'd help for standing if you're in GA. I'd start now even if you only have a short while.

Mentally prepare? Seriously?

It's music, not high-energy physics.

Maybe, I'm being a little harsh. Guess I just have a problem with the word 'mentally' before prepare. To answer the question the way I think you want it answered, I try to listen to NLOTH once a day (kind of a chore for me since I really don't like the album).

Anyway

I'm trying on my UF Tour t-shirt I've worn to every U2 show since.  Still fits (though I cut the sleeves off sometime in the late 80's), if seriously faded.  Be sure and say "hi" in Chicago if you see me.

Listening to 100 different songs, all live from 360 to get a feel of what we might get here.

And also every track that was rumored to be rehearsed at least once.

Praying that there aren't any storms or hurricanes on the horizon.

That and every night I wear my fly shades until I fall asleep.

Listening to NLOTH and Black Holes and Revelations (Muse is opening for the show I'll be at) in the car with my kids (2 of them will be going to the show too)

Loaning these 2 albums to a friend who will be going with us, just to be sure he's familiar with the new stuff and the opening band

Making a playlist of "possible songs" for 2 other friends to listen to, so they will know the rarer ones rumored to possibly have been rehearsed

Visiting the forum a lot lately

Watching OLC facebook friends post how their show is in only 7 days

Yeah I wasn't trying to compare it to studying for an exam...and the answers about clothing choice are interesting...but I was looking for the "I'm listening to/watching video of/thinking about/reading/etc." answers in case there were some fun ideas. Thats the reason for the word "mentally".
