The reason I became a U2 Fan was due to their Ultimate Coolness way back on the Boy Tour when I first saw them, and right to this very minute...And being a fan of theres it makes me feel cool too!

Everytime I see this "The reason you became a U2 fan?" thread I try to think about how to put it into words and the only thing I keep coming up with is:

I dont think I could have done anything else - from the first moment I was hooked. I need to hear their music. It my Miracle Drug!!!

When I was 13, my best friend's older brother lived in her parents' basement, which he had turned into a U2 shrine. Album covers, posters, pics from Propaganda, etc. He played U2 records (vinyl!) constantly.

I think it was With or Without You that got me hooked when I heard it blaring from that cellar.

I went to see U23D with my friend this past year and when I got home I instantly went to the computer and searched frantically on youtube for more :]. And then I opened itunes and realized I only had one U2 song (which I don't really know how it got there) so I had to get more :]

I was nine and in fourth grade when HTDAAB came out. My parents bought the album and were going to the concert. They played it in the car a lot and I became instantly hooked. I'm now a bigger fan than my parents are. Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the Vertigo tour. I get to go the the NLOTH tour.

There was no reason it was inevitable once I heard them. I have been listening to them and loving them since they first started. That goes along way back !

U2Pride, that's cool, I took my daughter to see U23D with me, but her reaction wasn't what I hoped for.

My family was talking about Bono and I had no idea who that was. It was 2005 or 2006 I think! I know it's hard to believe I'd never heard of Bono or U2. Anyway, a bit later I saw them perform "COBL" at the Grammys and I thought they "sounded pretty good." So my aunt, who also likes them, loaned me HTDAAB and I listened to a few songs but didn't really get into it. Then I was listening to the radio and heard "One" by them with Mary J. Blige (I loved the lyrics, but I hate the fact that she dominates the song!). So I went back to HTDAAB, listened to the whole thing, and loved it. Then I got U218...then Joshua Tree...then Zooropa...then Pop...then ATYCLB...then...well, you get the idea  ;D

"Let me in the SOUND!"

The sound man. That atmospheric, anthemic, risk-taking, chopping-down-the-joshua-tree, sound that is unmistakably U2. They reinvent, they tinker, they go back to the basics, whatever. They will always have that SOUND that is amazing to me. I first recognized it on The Unforgettable Fire, but it had always been there.

Thank God for that sound.
