I'm simply amazed by these figures.  Thinking back to POP-MART who would have thought it?

I think they are on target to sell 7 Million tickets by tour end if they play latin America and Australasia next year.

They say it is, but it wasn't. Not to full capacity anyway.

Yeah, I'm surprised by the sell-out statistics because I was at both Charlottesville and Raleigh and there were DEFINITELY empty seats in the stadium and neither GA was filled to capacity.  Hmm ...

But still an AMAZING show ... and still some AMAZING statistics.

I'm also wondering what they count it by. Houston definitely had empty seats and one very empty section. I was just looking at the clips Mr. S took.
Maybe they count it in proportion to full capacity of the venue. If let's say the capacity is 100,000 seats, maybe sellout is 95K and up. Don't know, just speculating here.

Reliant Stadium Capacity: 71,500   :-\

Super Bowl XXXVIII Attendance 71,525 (held at the same venue)

So was it a record attendance for a U2 show in Houston?

Don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, just wondering.  :-\

All these stats are from billboard and copy and pasted from another forum.

The record was typed in by someone else , i think it means that its a record event at that stadium.

 :'(

That's the Superbowl in which my Panthers lost. Whenever I see XXXVIII I cringe...  :-X

I think all this is for concerts and not sporting events when it comes to records.  However, with the on-field capacity, I don't know in a complete sell-out how a sporting event could beat 360.

Yeah, it's for concerts only.

Because the attendance for Phoenix is listed as a record, when it most certainly isn't for overall events.

That stadium holds 68,000 for football, and can expand capacity for things like the Super Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, etc.

Also, the records don't account for festival or free events. The Houston Livestock and Rodeo concerts have definitely had more people in attendance at Reliant Stadium, but are not counted because it's considered a festival.

It's because the promoter (in this case, Live Nation) puts a certain amount of tickets for sale at each venue. If they all sell, it's considered a "sellout" by them, even if more tickets can be sold.

It's silly (and they're basically liars), but that's how they do it.

Great stats for this tour.  It took U2 12 years to recover from their stadium fright and phobia after the Popmart debacle (remember all those empty seats in the third leg?) but they have recovered magnificently.

And those are just gross figures.  Think about how they made a killing of tour merchandise with those overpriced t-shirts and parking fees for those stadiums.

Cheers,

J

Makes sense. Thanks!  :)
