What song did U2 studio record in 1990? (Hint: It's a cover)

I only found this out when I went to see Dara O'Briain perform last year in Dublin. Turns out some of the lyrics from Wake Up Dead Man run across the border of Vicar Street:

Listen to your words - they'll tell you what to do
Listen over the rhythm that's confusing you
Listen to the reed in the saxophone
Listen over the hum of the radio
Listen over sounds of blades in rotation
Listen through the traffic in circulation
Listen as hope and peace try to rhyme
Listen over marching bands playing out their time

Weird. I was just looking on wikipedia, and apparently the song that became Wake Up Dead Man was leftover from the Achtung Baby sessions. Maybe Bono had those lyrics in the back of his head for a few years. :)

Most people know that U2 held a photo-shoot in Joshua Tree National Park for the JT album.  What other lesser-known California historical landmark did they hold a shoot at?

Zabriske Point in Death Valley, California? That was on the album itself.
Also the  Harmony Hotel in JT National Park and historic ghost town of Bodie, California were featured in tour books I believe.  ;D

I guess everyone around these parts knows how much I love the Joshua Tree!

Correct! (and I mistakenly wrote Joshua Tree Ntl park in the question instead of death valley).  My family took a trip to Bodie when I was about 8 years old (before I had found U2).  I still remember it - this little ghost down smack dab in the middle of nowhere in the arid Eastern Sierras.  We still go for drives the Eastern sierras every year and I always find myself wondering what the Band must have been thinking as they drove on the very same roads and viewed the same landscape as I.  There really is an indescribablle mystery and beauty to this landscape - they made a great choice to shoot where they did.

That would be Norman Mailer's Executioner's Song about Gary Gilmore.

This is one of the darkest U2 songs. It is an amazing song that doesn't get spoken about much. It is overlooked by a lot of the Achtung Baby songs. I heard it is the song that the killer who stalked and murdered actress Rebecca Schaefer played before he did it. That is why Bono does not like to do this song. I don't know how true the last part is though.
