Hi,
I saw Snow Patrol in the San Siro in Milan...AMAZING, I decided to buy their latest CD release and
it brings back great memories in the excellent songs they played...THANK YOU SNOW PATROL.  ;D

I saw Elbow in London and Sheffield and they are class...I have purchased some of the songs they played from ITunes.
THANK YOU ELBOW.  ;D

My dream opening acts would be Elbow followed Snow Patrol leading onto U2...WOW  8)
My voice would be destroyed by the time all 3 had played in one show...  ;)
Denis.

There are very few opening acts I want to see before U2.

I like how Paul McCartney toured a couple of times without an opening act.   Since nobody compares to the few top acts (U2, Paul, Stones....), the rest is just fluff to me.  I am there to see U2.

And, I particularly do not like it when people come on and play with a band.  They usually play real plain and are very polite to one another.  I am there for fire, intensity and to get a outer body experience (okay, maybe that is taking it a bit far). A band that plays like a locomotive out of control is what I love- not playing it safe.

An old timer such as myself would love to see Clannad. I have never seen them live before and U2 used to play Harry's Game at their concerts. Bono did a duet with them so they have a connection. Clannad are legends and amazing Irish musicians but can also do very contemporary things. I don't know if anyone else would care at all, but for me it would be an amazing evening of music!

I wouldn't mind a blast from the past with the Alarm even though I know that won't happen. For those too young to remember, this band ranked as high as U2 for their emotional live shows. They were nothing short of amazing and complimented U2 's style of music as an opening act in those days. You did not leave the same as when you went in to that show. Legendary!

I think either if these two would be as amazing as any contemporary band but I don't think younger fans would really be interested in either of them.   Oh well......I can dream.  ;)

SG - on the Alarm front I am so there!! Seeing them in April in Glasgow - still put on a great show!!

Arcade Fire
Rogue Wave
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Muse
Band of Horses
Explosions in The Sky
Chemical Bros
Kasabian
The Ponys
Wolf Parade
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Editors
French Kicks
Killers
Interpol
The National
VHS or Beta
Postal service
My Morning Jacket
Ratatat

Many of these bands have already been openers for U2

But my top 3 (Arcade Fire, Rogue Wave, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club)  are not only great live bands on thier own, but would really set the right atmosphere for U2 as well.  Rogue Wave is the only one I havent seen live, but would LOVE to

Why not Mr. David Bowie?

Nothing like a live version of "Space Oddity" to segue into U2's show opener as opposed to the recording!

Doesn't hurt that this year was "Space Oddity's" 40th Anniversary and that he supposedly is releasing a live DVD in January 2010.

I would enjoy that immensely. :D

Just a side note, has there been any actual word on who is playing or when it will be announced?

the bands on the 2009 North American dates were announced about 3 months before the first show in Chicago.

The Sam Roberts Band (they'd get a huge reception in Canada)
Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas (get the crowd dancing and fired up)
Patti Smith (why not, they're old friends and she's touring)
Eddie Vedder (again, they're old friends and he can hone his solo chops)

I'd second a lot of the younger bands, too, but I don't see a reason why solo artists couldn't open for them.
