Why you love U2
« on: December 05, 2009, 10:26:01 AM »
We all love U2. Otherwise, we wouldn't be on this forum. But my question is...

Why do you love U2? Is it their music? The fact that they're so active with charities and organizations of the like? The members?

I love U2 for several reasons, but most of all I enjoy their lyrics and music. Without one, the other wouldn't be the same. The music soars and transcendes, taking you to a new place. At the same time, the lyrics either keep you grounded or lift you even higher. They change you; they make you think.

And of course, the music and lyrics would be non-existent without the members of U2. I also love what each person contributes to U2's songs. There's Edge's guitar: it can elevate you (Elevation), or pull you down into a dark new world (Acrobat). Larry's drums. The backbone of any U2 song. Adam's bass is U2's heartbeat, drawing your own heart to beat at the same speed. And then there's Bono's voice. It lifts and soars, then moans and whispers. Each is an integral part of what we call a U2 song.

Their music is part of the soundtrack of my life. Whatever the season, mood, situation, their music is there.

An impossible question to answer without forgetting things or rambling on forever and ever

Listen to the opening of Beautiful Day.  0:50 to 1:20 of City of Blinding Lights.  Streets live.  The OHHHHS in With or Without You.  Thats why I love U2

I like them because of their music, their songs, how they perform. Each song has some story. I like that. And of course, I like Adam ;) ;)

Because they are something when they come together, something happens, it's kind of indescribable in lots of ways but that's why they are still as restless today as they have ever been. They think there are stil bottles of lightning to come and I for one agree.

Why do I love thee.....let me count the ways!!!

Your music moves me like no other band I have ever known.

You respect women which is almost unheard of in this world we call rock n roll.

You all try in your own way to give back to society in a positive way in your free time.

You are always so kind and respectful when you meet your fans.

You let us know you are  human and not perfect.

Love , SG  ;)

Because they are great.

corrected...

In all seriousness:
because they make awesome music
they care intensely about what they do
they continue to be a musical force well past the usual creative period
they are a true band, keeping the same members for 30 years
they use innovative technology and push the envelope in their live shows
and despite what some people think (see above) they continue to push forward musically without having to rehash their previous glories

The problem is that they've been rehashing too much lately. My girlfriend always says that they sound the same and they just keep making the same tracks over and over. I don;t agree with here completely since in the 90's they dared to innovate themselves. it's the last ten years that they've been in rehash mode.

Do I really need a reason?  I just do!  Loving U2 is like breathing at this point.  I don't even remember a time when I haven't been a fan of U2.
