Title: Long "O" or short "O"?
Post by: U2_fan8 [aka U28] on December 30, 2009, 09:41:29 AM
Okay, maybe the Bonogirls can help me on this one.

Does Bono pronounce his name with a long "O" (to rhyme with Yoko Ono) or with a short "O" (to rhyme with mono)?

I've heard it both ways, but I've always thought it was long "O." And how is it pronounced in Latin, as in bono vox?

It rhymes with Mono, like the kissing disease.  ;)

If a mix of Bono and Edge is "Bedge", would that picture of Bono with a donkey be a "Bonkey"?

In Latin, bono vox would be pronounced with a long O for bono and a short O with vox.  But I've always pronounced Bono like mono  :D

This opens up a whole new arena of name combinations with animals. :)

If he's not talking to an American audience, it's short -o. If he's going all "hey man! I'm American man, give me more money man!", it's long -o lol

Overheard from Live Aid

Freddie Mercury: "So, is it Bon-O or Bo-no?"

Bono: "It's Bon-O."

There you go...

I went to the library yesterday to check out Conversations With Bono.  I asked the librarian to look it up & he kept saying "Bo-No".
I was silently cringing while thinking of this thread. lol.

Ah, you're a "special" patron then. :D :D We usually have tons of books to check out, so we know everyone who works at our library pretty well. ;)
