Title: 'Realistic' Set-List Hopes For 360
Post by: Tumbling Dice on January 18, 2010, 01:36:39 PM
What are your set list hopes for the forthcoming legs of the 360 tour.  Knowing U2 as you all do please try to be realistic but what changes and song selections do you hope they will make?

I liked the setlists I saw from last year's dates, especially the North American dates. I'd love to see one of the following make it into the set:

Mofo
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Rejoice

...but if they keep the same set, it won't bother me at all.

Having said that, the encore should be Ultraviolet, Moment of Surrender and Bad every night. WOWY can take a rest for a while.

#@!

Here is mine... and this is if SOA doesn't get released before the tour resumes :(

Intro: Kingdom of Your Love
*****************************
1. Breathe
2. Magnificent
3. GOYB
4. Beautiful Day
5. Mysterious Ways
6. Stand Up Comedy
7. Stay or Kite or Staring at the Sun or Party Girl (acoustic)
8. Desire or Angel of Harlem
9. NLOTH
10. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For or Walk On
11. Unknown Caller
12. Until The End of The World or New Years Day
13. The Fly or Elevation or I Will Follow
14. City of Blinding Lights
15. Vertigo
16. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (REMIX)
17. Discotheque or HMTMKMKM
18. Gone or Original of the Species
19. Pride or Sunday Bloody Sunday
20. One
21. Where The Streets Have No Name
**************************************
22. Ultraviolet or In God's Country or Bad
23. Moment of Surrender
24. "40"

This way they only have like 35 songs to "learn" and 40 they don't really do anything so this seems pretty doable.

19. The Fly
****************************Encores

Its funny, I always think of songs I would love them to play live and try to think back to the concert
and which ones I would replace but I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SONG PLAYED. I cant even choose!!
I would LOVE to hear "Bad" and "RTSS" though.

Yep.  I remember walking out and thinking 'I would have loved to hear Pride and I Will Follow", but I wouldnt be willing to take out any of the songs that were played ;D

I went to my first concerts this year too, and I thought the setlists were a little dissapointing.  I loved Elevation, Until the End of the World, Mysterious Ways, and COBL, but I  Definitely could have done without

Sunday Bloody Sunday
Get On Your Boots
In a Little While
Stuck in a Moment
MLK
Walk On

Setlist would have been near perfect if they replaced those 6 with

The Fly
Even Better Than the Real Thing
Out of Control
I Will Follow
One Tree Hill
Bad

I'm sure Melbourne will get a couple of stadium dates.  What time is down there by the way?

haha! too true. Here's hoping for an Aus Tour. Paul McGuiness did hint at dates for 2011 in a recent interview and looking at that, I would be almost certain that they'd cover South American & Australia in that time.

It's just waiting that long which sucks. Gawd!

string MOFO on the end of the crazy tonight remix. have a mini rave for 20 minutes mid concert. i will sell glow sticks.

any other techno style songs we could fit in get to the 20 minute mark. maybe a discotek remix.

i know they rehearsed Drowning man and If god will send his angels in barcelona before the tour even started whether that was a teaser i dont know but they would be good i do hope they play some from songs of ascent even if they dont release it, it would be good to hear some new material as ones like winter were very good. I read somewhere also that there is going to be some changes i hope they play some real rarely played classics 11 o clock tick tock, a day without me, exit, mothers of the dissapeared, in gods country

^^ If they drop SBS which I don't think they will, I'd like to see it replaced by Please which could segue into Streets.

Seems pretty realistic, similar to earlier 360 legs, but w/a few tweaks. I like Magnificent at the start, Bad following Streets, and OMG, ending w/One Tree Hill. I would explode if that happened.

Setlist on last leg was mediocre at best. Encore needs to be different every night for starters. That awful version of Crazy needs to go also.

I agree.  That version of Crazy Tonight is like a spoken word track with synthetic beats.  Bring back the album version!

*cracks Knuckles*

Lets see...

*same kingdom of your love intro*

1) Crazy tonight (album version). However, Bono starts out alone on a keyboard, singing the first verse of the song while playing chords like the blackberry version. The lights will only be focused on him. Then after he finishes the first chorus, the lights light up the place, and the band join in. The song should also end more upbeat with a snippet of some sort.
2) Get On Your Boots
3) Magnificent
4) Mysterious Ways (with solo)
5) No Line on the Horizon
6) Beautiful Day, In God's Country (snippet)
7) ISHFWILF
8. Desire (full band) or Angel of Harlem
9) Until the end of the World
10) Stay or Stuck (both acoustic)
11) Unknown Caller
1) City of Blinding Lights (End with solo piano notes)
13) (segue into from solo piano notes of COBL) The Unforgettable Fire
14) Vertigo, It's only Rock and Roll (But I Like it) (snippet)
15) Even Better Than the Real thing (perfecto mix)
16) Bullet the Blue Sky or SBS
17) MLK (snippet) Walk On
18) Bad, The First Time (snippet), 40 (snippet) (NOTE: Only sometimes, as Bono's voice could get weaker if played constantly)
19) One

Encore

20) Where the Streets Have No Name
21) Breathe

Encore 2

22) Ultraviolet
23) WOWY
24) All I Want Is You
25) (If Edge is true to his word, a new song here maybe?) or MOS
26) Drowning Man

I think this seems too much, but is possible, as every song is playable or has been rehearsed multiple times

Doesnt seem too radical, Mid.  Except for the GLARING omission of Beautiful Day, its good.  I would make a few minor tweaks but it sounds good

Bad wont be an everyday inclusion, Angel of Harlem/Desire wont really happen, and I wont bank on Drowning Man or AIWIY...but I can see the last option happening...so you'll be at 22-24 songs a night, thats what been happening :)

I actually really really like your Crazy Tonight opener idea.  Although I think Breathe was made to be an opener, and it is amazing in that role...Crazy could work.  I just dont see Breathe being bumped from the top spot.  I can see it being too hard/strenuous for Bono to sing after 20 other songs.  Personally, I would rather see Breathe, but I would be very very happy with basically anything they choose, including Crazy :)

The Unforgettable Fire-COBL-Vertigo is perfect in my mind, but hearing that order tweaked would be interesting

Im gonna post my setlist, hold on

Fez - Being Born as the opener.

WAIA version of 'A Sort Of Homecoming' as the closer.

Mix in Please, Acrobat, The Fly, Gone, Desire F/B in between and I reckon you've got a fabulous show.

Nice, a couple of changes in there, I like the UC and NYD thing.

I would personally take out elevation, it's been around constantly since it's debut, needs to be shelved for a bit. Maybe put Stay back in?

Overall I like it, SYCMIOYO was rehearsed, so this is also 100% possible

20. One
21. Street
22. Ultraviolet
23. WOWY
24. MOS

a combination of the first 2 legs.  NLOTH back to the 2 slot, UTEOTW being a mainstay, One-Streets in the encore.....I like it

I actually think a song like Stay is best performed every once in a while, not a setlist mainstay in my mind.  Oh is it great, but I think the acoustic set is kinda overrated.  Maybe rotate UC with Stay on occasions.  Not a constant rotation, but maybe play Stay (or Stuck) once every three or four shows.  When Stay or Stuck replace UC, have One take NYD's spot in order for Bad to be played before Streets, could work.  Bad/40/Streets.

Elevation was one of about 7 songs that made the crowd ROCK.  All the songs were great but a few were just outta this world, and Elevation was one of them.  Keep it in my mind, its a fun energetic stadium rocker.

Sometimes NEEDS to be played again, I dont wanna see it die.  Its too beautiful to be shelved

If they must have an acoustic song... and it seems they must... Stuck in a moment is the gravel covered chewing gum on the sole of Stay's shoe.

Setlist metaphor of the week.  I have seen both acoustic, and briscoe is spot-on.  But Wake Up Dead Man would be the Manolo Blahnik to Stay's Keds.

I think in all honesty....You will get 7-9 new songs played on the upcoming leg.  As for what will be removed, I'm not sure.  Remember that at least 3-5 of those new debuts will be SOA material for sure.  Throw in 4 new "oldies" and that'll be it.  Just a hunch.

3-5 songs off an album that doesn't and most likely won't exist?

THAT will f*** with the zen buddhist's collective minds...

"If a track from an album is played but that album doesn't exist, does anyone hear it?"

I know I know...You have to think that they have 3-5 at least ironed out.  "Kingdom" is done. "Winter" although studio driven, has made the rounds with Award season (aside from the Oscars).  "North Star" is a rumored tune that was from previous sessions. I'm just saying, that with the sales flop of NLOTH, they're going to want to get SOA material out there and they're going to need a hit radio launch that won't echo the hiss heard when "Get on Your Boots" played. Be optimistic people!
