Title: Plan of action for those whose show is postponed/Stubhub-bought tickets... What
Post by: braxhunt on May 25, 2010, 05:28:29 AM
For all those like me who have never experienced having their gig postponed, what do we do? Do we get a ticket refund, use our ticket at the rescheduled show, get our tickets replaced or what? I completely sympathize with Bono's surgery and am glad WE CAN REBUILD HIM, but logistically we still need to know what to do.

We will have to wait and see, as they have to start from ground zero on arranging new dates in several stadiums around the U.S. and take account of
sports and other events etc. this will all take time. I suspect several weeks.

Usually the options are:

Use ticket for recheduled date, which will be announced in due course.

Take a refund - as the new dates may not suit you.

Just hold onto your ticket and use it for the re-scheduled show. I had this experience at '06 Honolulu show when the Pacific leg was postponed. The re-scheduled shows in November and December were historic. Incredible versions of Kite in Australia and New Zealand and Pearl Jam opening in Honolulu with both bands performing with Billie Joe Armstrong. The shows we eventually see will be great.

What if you bought your ticket from StubHub and are not sure if you will be able to see the rescheduled show...how do you get your money back from StubHub?

I am a bit nervous as the temporary site they use in Montreal was supposed to be demolished and used for real estate after both concerts.  I hope they had a good contract so they can reschedule in 2011.

Same thing with me for Miami and Anaheim.  How are they going to get MLB to build their schedule around U2 all over again?

Where there's a will there's a way and if anything, Bono & Co, have "will" in spades.  They'll make it happen & find a venue.  If there's no venue, maybe they'll play outdoors in a field?  Previously, they were allegedly thinking of doing the Pemberton fest, which is in the mountains & nature.  They didn't play there but a lot of big name bands did.

I'm worried about that too.  I go to school in NY, but I have tickets for Miami and Anaheim.  If it's during the semester I could be screwed.  I think you're fine with Denver because of the temperature, but I could see Miami and Anaheim being scheduled early in the year before baseball season starts (late March, first week of April).

Being an outdoor concert, and the fact that so many of the cities are northern cities, 360 can not resume until at least April/May of next year.

Or else make a baby claw to bring it inside.

This note appears on Ticketmaster.com for all the U2 U.S. dates that have been postponed:

"This event has been postponed. Don't worry, your original tickets will still be good for the new date. We know you are excited to see U2, so just sit tight, as soon as the new date is announced, TM.com will be updated!"

Thanks for the update FAYF!  All direct & original purchasers will be covered and I just hope fans that got tix through Stubhub, trades and other means can find solutions too!

Under NY State law, tour operators can only hold your money for a certain length of time. New dates have to be announced (I think it's within 90 days) or they must give you a refund. That's what happened with my ticket to Spider-Man the Musical. It may only apply for tickets sold in NY State, or to residents of NY State, however.

I'd guess all of the above, esp holding on to your original tix.  Good luck to all...

The email from TM this morning said:
"Donít worry, your original tickets will still be good for the new date."

However, if a show is officially canceled, and not postponed, then yeah, I'd contact those ticket buying sites. Don't they have some sort of garantee?

All my incredibly depressing emails from Ticketmaster advised what Hawkmoon2e said.  Tickets are good for next year's reschedules.  Unfortunately my plane tickets aren't.

All the US Airlines are going to make a ton of money on our misfortune... jerks.

Hopefully you can cancel and rebook them for next year, which is often the case ( 1 year)  unless they were specific terms in the ticket purchase stating otherwise. Check the fine print and good luck EF ( and all)!

Same thing with me for Miami and Anaheim.  How are they going to get MLB to build their schedule around U2 all over again?

It's easy in that regard.  I'm not sure about Miami, but in Anaheim, the city, NOT THE TEAM owns the stadium.  When MLB goes to plan their schedule for the 2011 season, I'm guessing that they will have to work around U2.

The city isn't going lose out on the revenue that a U2 show is going to bring in.  They don't have the best relationship with Arte Moreno (the owner of the Angels) so I seriously doubt they'll take what he thinks into consideration.

I see another long road trip for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim next baseball season.

I hope the new dates work out for all of us.  I go to college on the East Coast but live on the West Coast, so the summer dates worked out perfectly for me because I am home this summer.  I guess I'll have to make next year's summer plans around U2 Ė if U2 are coming to Oakland during June again, I'll be home for sure.  I don't know what I'll do if they reschedule in spring or fall, as getting to a concert is not nearly as convenient when I'm at school.  I guess this is something we'll all have to deal with, hoping that the rescheduled dates work for us.

Yeah, one year from when I BOUGHT the ticket.  It's never from the date of travel which is ridiculous.  So unless they play in January, then I'm out of luck.  So basically I'm screwed.

My plan of action is to thank God that Bono won't be permanently paralyzed, that there will still be a U2 and that I will get to see them next year.

I got an email from TicketMaster saying that my tickets would still be good for whenever they reschedule the show so I'll just rebook a hotel when they figure out when that will be.

I really feel for you EF. I've just been checking the Ts & Cs of my tickets to Moscow and Portugal, just in case of further postponements. Moscow can't be changed or refunded at all, Portugal can be changed, but at a cost and I suspect with the same within a year of buying it restriction as yours.

Most all ticket vendors have a cancellation clause if the event is cancelled as a result of injury, weather etc. you will be refunded , don't worry. Wait and see what the new scheduled dates are and you will have the choice of rescheduling or refund .

I'm one of the lucky ones, with tickets for 2 gigs in Europe in September & October(Seville & Coimbra),these gigs look like they will go ahead as planned. However, I said to myself a few days ago that in the event of the gigs being postponed, I would go on the trip anyway. Flights are booked and paid for in full, so no come back there. Seville is an incredible city, I was there a few years back, and I have never been to Coimbra(Portugal).

So what I am saying is, maybe taking those flights anyway might be an option.

If not, then:
Travel Insurance mights also be an option if you have suitable cover. There might be a possibility of a refund on your credit card. I don't know if this is the case, but it's certainly worth checking it out.  Maybe do a name change on the flight tickets, and leave someone else go on the trip, therefore not wasting them.

^ I agree.

Very often there are ways of getting your money back, it just takes work and getting past all the people along the way who will tell you that there is nothing you can do about it. Often all you need is one friendly soul who knows about some way, some rule that entitles you to a full refund.

I've had a few of those situations in my life. In one case the answer was so simple, it was ridiculous, but it took a phone call to the U.S Department of State to find out. All the little people in their little offices told me it my problem can't be solved, till the person in the Department of State said "Oh, it's simple you just do this and that" after that my year long dillema was solved in a few hours.

Anyway the point of the ramble is, all is not lost. It might take you a few hours on the phone but you might get your refund.

Pretty much every concert site other than Miami/Anahiem is in a city where weather can easily be awful through April and into May, as has been shown in Colorado this year (snow earlier this month ppd'd a couple Rockies games). You've got Denver, Salt Lake, Chicago, Minneapolis, Edmonton, Philadelphia, New York, etc.. So I don't think it will start in March or April, unless the band wants to sit around for a few weeks after playing Miami/Anaheim, waiting for the weather to be palatable enough in all the cooler climates. Just my 2 cents.

I am very happy to hear that Bono is out of hosptial and is expecting a full recovery and the the North American dates will be postponed till next year. That is music to my ears, thank God he is doing well and is already up and about. The European tour will go on schedule with a few dates postponed, but in the long run our man will be fine . Thank you God! I presume the new scheduled dates will be announced within the next few days . I am so pleased that he is alright . I cried when I heard the initial news, now I am relieved . I will see U2 again , same place one year later . It's alright , it's alright ......he moves in mysterious ways ..... 2011 will be the best year for U2 .

My sister and I were traveling to Montreal to see them July 16th.  Luckily we are within driving distance so it's not too expensive for us to go twice, which is what we are planning to do.  We already booked the hotel and to get a great deal we had to pay in advance without any option to cancel.  So we've decided to come up to Montreal for the weekend in July and then come back when U2 returns.  I'm sad that we won't see U2 this year, but I am so excited to take the trip anyway!  Good luck to all of you who were traveling to see U2, I know there were a lot of us out there.  I hope you all are able to work things out and are able to see them in 2011.

Just canceled my flight, car and just have to get a hold of the hotel now.  5 of us are going to rebook for next year and I have to use up my flight beforehand b/c I bought it last November & it was too late to get a full refund.  Its a disappointment but no biggie in the scheme of things... I'll just plan another getaway... maybe visit some friends & forum buds in the US.   I'm starting to think NYC area will be the ticket... ;D

Same here. And I might be buying back the NY GA ticket I sold. It's starting to look like this delay will work to my advantage.

If you can no longer use your tickets, you can sell them on StubHub when the new date is announced. Visit our Help section and check out the Seller Learning Center to learn all about Getting Started Listing.

And they make money twice on the same tickets.

That's true, those sneaky jerks.  How very cagey.

I was sent an email today from Stubhub which states I can ask for my money back but they strongly suggest I hold onto my tix because of the possibility the price might go up!

I am concerned that we may not get new date info. for several months now as happened in 2006. I have tickets for the 2 shows in Montreal and have a flight booked from Manchester UK on Swissair at £526 pounds. I cant get a refund of anything more than £59 pounds! I can't fly after November 2010 as I bought them in November 2009 so I cant change the dates to sometime in 2011, and in any event I need to make ANY changes before I was due to fly out, on July 13th, in 4 weeks! I also have tickets for 4 shows in Europe starting in Helsinki, but for now they appear to be realtively safe. I love this band and travelled all over the globe last year for the 360 tour (Barcelona, Amsterdam, Toronto, Boston, Dallas, Houston, and closer to home, Sheffield) and in 2006 when I benefited from tickets for the rescheduled Sydney shows becoming available, but I am a little concerned that there has been no news  at all about when shows wil be back on at all. There hasn't even been an option to have refunds now for people who know they can't or don't want to make any rescheduled gigs, which I think is a little bit unfair to them.  It looks like I am going to either lose nearly £500 pounds, or have to travel to Montreal in July for nothing really, and then again in 2011.  As I said, I do love this band, but I am not in this band, so it hurts a bit financially. I think I'll stick to European shows from now on. It's less risky financially.
Hope Bono gets better soon.
Take care.

Sorry you're going through this!  If your tickets/ airline allow, I'd suggest to just rebook a different holiday & destination to use up the flights.  There'd be a s/c for that change and it still sucks b/c its not the concert & you'll have to rebook like others here but you can still have a great holiday!  While Montreal is a great city to visit and sightsee, you can do that next year when you're there.  And in the meantime you can just sightsee and enjoy a trip somewhere else that you'd love to check out!   :)

That's what I'm doing & I'm in a similar predicament although my flight is not as expensive & its only 1 show... I'll rebook mine for probably a getaway in elsewhere in the US, and see Denver anew, when I see U2 in 2011.

As for the EU dates... stay tuned and hope it goes through!  Keep everything crossed!
Good luck whatever you decide and all the best...

Unfortunately since the show is postponed and not cancelled, the promoter isn't obligated to offer any refunds yet.

Once the new show date is announced only then can refunds be offered as you won't know until the new date is announced whether or not you can attend the show.  If the refund policy is similar to that in 2006, fans will given a deadline to return/refund tickets with no refunds given after the deadline passes.

That was how refunds for the Australia/New Zealand and Hawaii make up dates was handled as you can see here:  http://www.coppel.com.au/artists/U2/extra.html (http://www.coppel.com.au/artists/U2/extra.html)

In the case of the Vertigo postponement back in 2006, shows originally scheduled for March/April didn't have their makeup dates announced until July of that year.  I expect makeup dates to be announced later rather than sooner.

I honestly wouldn't expect North American make up dates to be rescheduled and announced until September/October of this year.  I wouldn't be surprised if tour organizers at this very moment are working with stadium management, Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Football League (NFL) and their scheduling departments to find/arrange for a minimum 7 day window so that the band can bring the show back to the same venues it was originally booked into.

I'm trying to see the positive in it.  Once new dates are announced, I'm seriously thinking about hitting a few more cities in North America to see the band.

Same here.  By February, I should have my car paid off and be able to add another show or two.

NYC, Philly perhaps?

NYC is almost definite because the guy I sold the ticket to has already asked if I wanted to buy it back. I may do that next week actually.  Philly is possible, it just depends on the date.

I bought tickets on Stubhub for Anaheim 2 in early February.......I was sent the email by Stubhub offering to refund the tickets or sell them on their website. Looking through TM I was able to find seats in a similar location to my Stubhub seats.....was able to get a refund for those seats by emailing Stubhub and just kept my TM seats! Very easy process that may be an option for those that already purchased seats on SH for higher than face value
