Why not South Korea TD?

I think Seoul would be a brilliant place for them to play. They have stadiums galore and an incredibly passionate attitude when it comes to live music. There's also a decent US military presence there that would sell a few thousand tickets.

I think it could work, close to Japan obviously as well...

In the last couple of years, Iron Maiden and Metallica have each played that stadium as well. Metallica was there less than 2 months ago, and they set the attendance record, thanks in part to all the Chilean fans who came over since the stadium in Santiago was damaged in the big quake.

U2 really need to think about doing a few Indian gigs. They would pull massive numbers there.

Good reasons sure, but mark my words.  The way things are going it would be cause for celebration if they played Perth WA or even made it to Australia.

Oh, I agree on that front.

I'm assuming that if they make Japan, Korea isn't exactly a stretch

I doubt U2 will play India anytime soon. My reasoning: security and logistical challenges

Have to take into account the fact that ticket prices in India would be out of reach for many locals. If U2 can't make money, they won't tour. That's just business fact.

The Rolling Stones played in India in 2003 on the Licks tour.  If a band as mercenary as the Stones did then I don't see why U2 wouldn't solely from a business perspective.  Not that I think they will.

what does "many locals" mean in a nation of 1.5 billion people? Their middle class is as big as the entire population of the USA. Yeah, the security situation post-Mumbai would probably deter them, though. :(

anyway, Iron Maiden's done a few shows in India over the last 3 or 4 years, and they pulled huge crowds at each date.
no one's seemed to comment on the bit about U2 contacting venues in cities that weren't on the 2010 itinerary. hope it's really happening!

They played in Sarajevo after years of war and violence, why cant they play in India?

Sarajevo was a one-off and a very different situation - it's not really comparable. I don't think that U2 see India the same way they saw Sarajevo in the mid-nineties.

There's not a lot of artists that do shows in India.  So regardless of who's performing, Indian people will attend.

I understand your frustration, but keep in mind where the majority of these shows are in climates that are not suitable for an outdoor stadium show until May. Denver (where two Rockies games were postponed by SNOW earlier this month), Salt Lake City, Edmonton, Minneapolis, Chicago, East Lansing, Philly, New York, etc.

They could reschedule three dates for January: Miami, and the two Anaheim shows. Then the trucks would sit around for four months. Believe me, I'm disappointed. But I also don't want to see U2 in the snow in Denver. I hate the wait, but I'll take June 2011. I want to enjoy the show in all respects, and it's much easier to enjoy in warm weather.

Nice get, briscoetheque. Which is par for the course for you. My next point was going to be: Some countries are still waiting, and might not get a show at all. I'm always looking out for you, aussie. Oye Oye Oye.

Maybe they should play in cold freezing weather.  Then, only the true hardcore fans [read, fans who will go to a concert come hell or high water] will show up & the fair weather fans can stay home.  ;D

The Oklahoma show was pretty cold, in the low 40's F with a breeze, and you could tell Edge and Dallas had a hard time keeping the guitars in tune.  Willie Williams mentioned that in his diary at U2.com, too.

sorry im a bit dumb, but what do they mean by:

'Live Nation has contacted concert promoters on several continents and has blocked out the following as a possible itinerary'

does this mean they are blocking out the possibilities of these concerts. If so, I'm gonna cry

Blocked out = reserving dates. It's good. Not bad.

If you think waiting a year for postponed shows is bad, try living in Johannesberg, where U2 have only played once. Or South America and Australia, where the band frequently skip tours.

My gut feel leads to

Europe Autumn 2010
South America / Australia / Japan Late 2010-early 2011
US Spring-Summer 2011
Glastonbury / Dublin June 2011

I wouldn't say it's necessarily 100% confirmed BUT just a completely unbased-in-reality estimation here, it's probably 85% confirmed. Logistically, it makes the most sense to just push the whole thing back a year since, if these dates and places worked for everyone this year why not next but of course nothing's for sure until it's officially announced.

Stop it. You're killing me. I don't see any fans there, though. Get back to me when your final draft is done. And this assignment will count for half your grade this summer (or winter, as it were, in the Great Southern Land).
