Title: What would you love to see the band do on stage?
Post by: eastlink on January 29, 2009, 02:49:50 PM
It's time to kick it up on the Horizon tour. Would would you get a kick out of the band doing on stage - can be anything, big or small.

I'd love to see Edge smash a guitar into something in a serious fit of rage (not the Gibson though).

I'd like to see Edge come down off the stage and give me his explorer....

I can dream, can't I?

I'd like to see them just play songs.

No more lengthy sermons, or video presentations.  Just pure songs.  No more talking in between songs, or adding extended jams to songs just so Bono will talk.

Just play without adding snippets of other songs that are totally unrelated to the song their are singing.

Enough with the theatrics, just play songs.

If they just play non-stop, we can get a 30 song setlist.  For U2, a 2-hour show is in the low 20s in number of songs. They should stretch the setlist.

A good way would be to take out the ramp or b-stage so Bono won't be moving around too much and can focus on his delivery of the songs.

Cheers,

J

I would love to see Gavin and even Guggi stop hiding in the sound room and come to the stage to do something with the boys!! They played with the Virgin Prunes many times so I'm sure the funky trinity could come up with something great for the crowd. If I see that live, I can die a happy StrongGirl ;) :) :) :) :) :)

are you kidding me?  I was lucky enough to get 15th row tickets next to the ramp.  I was 15 rows back from the main stage, but only 3 rows from the ramp!

also on the last tour I was about 50 rows from the stage, but with the ramp on the floor it allowed me to see them closer about 25 rows up.

I think the ramp or B stage allows them to be more intimate with the fans and I love that about them!!

U2 always campaign for social justice.

Is it justice to their fans who lined up many hours, to have fans who lined up much later but get a better view of the band because of the b-stage/heart tip/ramp?

Is it justice to these same fans to have U2 waste precious seconds setting up and moving in and out of the b-stage when this precious time could have meant half a song or one song more per concert?

It's time to let that social justice principle trickle on to their shows.

Just a thought.

Cheers,

J

Dump the B-Stage, do something like this, put everyone in GA close to the stage

Bono on a wire - David Lee Roth style and Larry's drum set on a hovercraft that flies over the audience (jk)

Seriously, I want them to put in an ellipse around the perimeter of the whole stadium floor (a low-lying ellipse that doesn't obstruct anyone's view).  Think of it - the Horizon tour - what could be more perfect than the ellipse going around the "horizon" of the entire stadium.  For a lot of the show, the stage is in the same spot and they can do some of the same stuff on the main stage, but for those fans who are at the far end of the football field, they know that for at least a couple of songs Bono and Edge or even the whole band are going to head around the perimeter and play right in their faces.  They could have Edge and Adam head out on the ramps too and have Larry's drum set revolve so that he would play to the fans behind him for a few songs.  Maybe there would be a ramp down the middle that joins up with the one around the perimeter and puts Bono almost anywhere he wants to go.  He wants to sing from the middle of the GA or run huge laps - no problem.

Aside from that, maybe the boys will play the Wanderer or Ultraviolet for me.

go on unscripted and make it up as the show moves along, taking a request or two or three from the crowd and feel confident enough to whip off any tune in their trunk. oh wait, that's Pearl Jam ... but it would be nice to see U2 try it ... once?

You said it - precious seconds. Did you like the Zootv concert? Did you like Popmart? Have you liked any tour U2 has ever done from 1992 down to our present day?

All tours have had some form of B Stage / Ramp etc

I never got to see Zoo TV live but I saw a number of vids and they were great.

I watched Popmart and it was the most incredible spectacle I have ever seen.

I know the place of U2's b-stage in everything, but I think we could squeeze out a song or two from them.

During Popmart, they spend so much time in that motorized lemon.  They could have actually not done that gimmick and just played a song instead.

It also took precious seconds from the end of WOWY before they went to the main stage to play HMTMKMKM. Bono also did a long speech before ISHFWILF.

If they can just cut off all these parts and replace them with songs, we would get a more productive U2 show given the same time limit.

Cheers,

J

I wouldn't mind a show 1/2 way through the tour where I had no idea what was gonna come next.  The setlists have been pretty predictable.  Perhaps they could take requests.  Something goofy like that.

and they would have to play Red Hill Mining Town.

And not that slow version, but one like the Red Rocks
