Title: No Line On The Horizon on Future Tours
Post by: The Unknown Caller on April 02, 2011, 08:09:46 PM
Which songs from NLOTH do you think will appear in future U2 tours?

Personally, I think the band still quite like the album a lot and keep indicating this in their ways, but have rightly realised that it lacked commercial appeal and will suit an arena setting better. I honestly think we'll hear Boots, Magnificent and a Studio version of Crazy as semi-regulars, with Moment, Breathe, NLOTH, Stand-Up And White As Snow all making appearances. I think Unknown Caller, sadly, is probably dead forever.

Optimistic? Maybe. But let's vote!

I actually see almost all of them being played, exceptions being Fez/Being Born and Cedars.

No Line On The Horizon, Magnificent, Crazy Tonight, and MoS.

Possibly an unexpected performance of a hitherto unplayed track, a la The First Time years later on Vertigo Tour.

An 'acoustic' No Line on the Horizon.  That's all.

If it's another greatest hits tour then they won't be playing anything except maybe an acoustic number.

And if it's an arena tour where they're concentrating on playing their new experimental music from a new album, then there won't be any space for anything from NLOTH.

I'm surprised so many people don't see Boots being played. It and Magnificent are the two I personally view as *most* likely!  :D

If they didn't play it on the *next* tour, let alone on any future tour, it would be the second ever lead single to meet that fate after Numb.

We all know how much you love Numb  ;D ;)

...There is a reason it is the only lead single never to be played again. :P

Even Fire didn't manage to sink that low.

I thought Numb was spectacular on ZooTV, with the factory/soldiers/tribesman footage and sound effects in the background.

The Emergency Broadcast Network mix is like a studio version of ZOOTV. It's awesome.

I like the dialogue at the very beginning about new material and selling the same old stuff to the audience forever. Somewhat ironic considering where the 360 Tour has gone.

I would love for them to play that segment and possibly Numb before a little block of brand new songs: Mercy, North Star, Every Breaking Wave full band, BFFTS, Glastonbury.

I don't think they want people to hear that line considering where 360 has gone.  ;) And plus, it doesn't work well with the new songs.

Well, at least play that little dialogue snippet before bursting into Mercy and the new songs.

Magnificent is the overwhelming vote here to be played on future tours and yet will not be one of the (Now only two...) NLOTH songs to make it through the tour...

I don't think it would work because in a way, these new songs aren't new material. Zooropa had a new sound. The new tracks? Nope.

I must somehow be missing the albums Every Breaking Wave, Mercy, North Star, Glastonbury, Stingray Guitar and BFFTS are on then.

I meant in terms of sound!

Although I guess you are missing one. Mercy was on WAIE.  ;)

Kinda surprised onto only the 13 votes for NLOTH, thought it was a great rock track that could be played again.

Based on how it's own tour has treated it I highly doubt any of them but Magnificent and MOS might be dusted off now and again.

No Line, Boots and Magnificent

I cant see the Crazy Remix played anymore after this tour - its very tour specific?

Magnificent
Moment of Surrender
Unknown Caller
Boots
Fez

However, I only think that Moment of Surrender and Magnificent will be consistently part of later tours. The rest will make an occasional appearance.

My guess is that next time we see the band, post-360, it will only be Magnificent in regular rotation. Others will make periodic appearances. I think over time MOS will come back, a la Walk On. Crazy, the remix, will assume the role played now by Discotheque -- brought out of the closet rarely to shake things up and get us talking. I'm hopeful that Boots will be tossed in the dust bin, for symbolic reasons if nothing else.

My sentiments exactly. Albeit im not so sure we'll ever see Crazy tonight again. Although i never thought In a Little While would get played again, let alone become a concert staple, so who knows.

No Line will get the same treatment as other lessor received albums like Pop & October. I don't think any of the songs will be regulars on future tours. They have always been a band that plays quite a few of their hits each show, and also quite a bit of the album they are supporting. With their catalogue getting bigger, it won't leave much room for songs on an album which wasn't well received.
