Title: If they were to bring back one NLOTH song
Post by: The Unknown Caller on April 03, 2011, 02:54:04 PM
If U2 were to bring back *one* previously played NLOTH song which they aren't currently playing on the 360 Tour, what should it be?

Bring Breathe back as the opener.

I have voted for NLOTH myself as although I want them *all* back, and although Unknown Caller is my favourite of them, I thought NLOTH was easily the best live!

To be honest, whilst i absolutely love this album, none of these songs are very suitable for a stadium setting. None of them are very upbeat (except CT), or jumpy, they don't make you want to sing along, and they're just not very well known. They don't have the right qualities for a stadium filled mostly with casuals wanting to hear the hits.
It's a shame, i think designing the 360 tour spelled doom for NLOTH - it would have worked a lot better in arenas, but a lot of the songs are almost too dark to be played live at all, if there are many casual fans in attendance.

NLOTH.  It was INCREDIBLE live.  But I would like to see them all come back on some basis (except the Crazy album version)

No Line. One of their best rockers since The Fly.

Bring them all back . If I wanted to watch a greatest hit band there are plenty of 80's revival bands around . loved the new song one the first leg of the tour .
really miss Unknown Caller so that got my vote .

Do something different and play I'll Go Crazy in the album style, move The Real Thing to the Crazy remix spot and open the show with Desire.

Oh and add Please in place of SBS, alternate The Fly and Acrobat in the encores, and then film a show and release a second 360 DVD.  :)

No Line on the Horizon! Great song, really stands up live, and at one of my shows it definitely got the best reaction out of all the new songs.

Breathe! Bring back Breathe!!

I don't think NLOTH is as good as the rest of you, I guess. I wouldn't even compare it to The Fly, let alone call it their best rocker since The Fly.

Unknown Caller is an amazing song.  I love it and would pick that one.

No Line On The Horizon for me. I always thought it should be tightened up a little more, but all in all it's an amazing live song. My second choice would be Breathe, but not as the opener.

I would do the same

I voted for No Line, believe it or not. But it was a toss up because I really wanted to say Unknown Caller too.

And now maybe Magnificent. But to be honest, I'd prefer Breathe came back... I love Magnificent, but I love Breathe better.

No Line

or Breathe

Definitely "Unknown Caller" of the choices listed.  And if they start not playing "Magnificent" and yet continue playing "Get On Your Boots," that will be the biggest WTF ever.  I mean, they have slowly been dropping songs from NLOTH, yet that dog of a song is still getting played?  Really?

No Line by far for me.

I voted for Crazy. Weird choice, I know.

I watched Letterman the week U2 was on in 2009 and they did a full on band version and I thought it was great. I really didn't care for the song that much after NLOTH came out, but after seeing it on the show, full band, I thought it was pretty good.

I really don't like the remix and all that, I prefer straight up full on band versions of songs.

I can't believe Magnificent was dropped, I wonder if it's temporary. Let the Greatest Hits Tour flames begin....

I wonder if EBTTRT is in because of the region. It may have been a bigger hit in Latin/South America than elsewhere, so it showed up in the setlist.

Hopefully Unknown Caller, the birds of Fez intro and the crowd interaction with the oh oh oh's!  , for me made it a strange choice to be binned so early. There was never a great crowd reaction to No Line or Magnificent or Breathe compared to Unknown Caller.
The biggest reaction was for GOYB which although it is pretty poor effort it still managed to energise every show I was at on 360. I don't think it is always what is considered their best song from an album that makes an impact live, Bullet is a great example , never ever listen to it outside a show but everytime I have seen it live, I have loved it.

Magnificent will obviously be added as an option if it actually misses a few gigs, rather than hysterical overreaction to missing one.

i can't choose between the first 3 on the list. they each have their own merited claims to be rightfully put back on the playlist.

Apart from the fact I would have to say Magnificent (I hope thats just because its 3 shows in a row) No Line for me because i think its fantatstic live! Probably better than the album version IMHO  ;D

Had to vote for Unknown Caller. It's such a great song and I loved it live! Too bad it's so underrated...

I wanted all of them back, especially Unknown Caller & No Line On the Horizon.

However, I voted No Line on the Horizon just because they couldn't figure out how to end Unknown Caller.

No Line On The Horizon... but only because it is the best song when played live

Since "Magnificent" seems a staple - and rightly so, NLOTH.

"Boots" is this albums "Discotheque" and will fall away soon.

I hope not... I hope it stays for the rest of this tour at least. Live, boots is undeniably good. Studio version is certainly up for debate

Boots wishes it was Discotheque. Discotheque had an amazing, unique riff, a great danceable sound, and surprisingly incisive lyrics when you really analyze what the song is about.

.... I was more thinking in terms of a song that quickly disappears over time from setlists

There are other songs that disappeared live much more quickly. If God Will Send His Angels, All Because Of You, Last Night On Earth, Miami, Miracle Drug etc. None lasted beyond their album's supporting tour. Discotheque made it through Elevation and a few Vertigo appearances before its death.

I've lost all hope in anything from Pop showing back up.
