The question now is, will this stuff be part of the setlist, or is it for a recording of live tracks for the achtung baby remaster?
Remember last month they were in the Hansa studio rehearsing a lot of achtung rarities, including so cruel... and apparently what they're rehearsing now is being filmed by the 'it might get loud' director...

right, I'm just hoping that some of it bleeds over to the tour, that would be awesome.

rehearsal report:

Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Love Is Blindness
The Fly (for the 5th time)
Even Better Than The Real Thing
The Fly
One
Blowin' In The Wind - Where The Streets Have No Name
Even Better Than The Real Thing
The Fly
Magnificent
Mysterious Ways
Until The End Of The World
Elevation

It looks like they might be rehearsing The Fly in I Will Follow's place maybe?  Or maybe Love Is Blindness in With or Without You's position?

I know the fly has been played many times before, but on every tour it's had a unique identity and sound, so i'm very interested to see what it will be like next - even if it's only for the remaster (however the numerous rehearsals suggest to me they might play it live).
And yeah, Hearing love is blindness would be great too - still holding out for acrobat though  ;D

I can see The Fly definitley taking a spot in the 360 setlist, but I'm not so sure about Love Is Blindness. Everytime it's been played, it has been the closer, and I don't see the boys cutting Moment of Surrender

Oh my God :o

I'm seriously doubting Love Is Blindness gets in the set but THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME. But please don't replace WOWY with it. Yet.

The Fly would be epic...

My guess is that the band will be playing these songs live in the theatre and filming the performances for the documentary (and there will be band commentary interspersed throughout). If they were just rehearsing for Glasto there'd be no film crew, and if they were just recording audio for the AB remaster, they wouldn't need a theatre.

No, Julie Taymor.

The filming might be for their Glasto appearance, where they might end up pushing Achtung Baby material for the remaster (of course the US is a major market, so it's logical to see them play more AB stuff on the final leg), and maybe they are doing a TV special for that occasion.

It is sorta bugging me (aside from being positively awesome), that R.E.M. recorded live versions of songs off their latest album inside Hansa Studios. I kinda hoped U2 would revisit Hansa with exactly that purpose.

Yeah I would think Hansa would be a logical move to rerecord stuff but maybe their tour schedule is getting in the way so they chose an location on the road.

Then again, they were spotted in Berlin. Who knows?

Looking forward to the remaster either way.

The remastered One, Mysterious Ways, The Fly, EBTTRT, UTEOTW, all sound great, so I'm also looking forward to hearing the rest of the tracks remastered.

Next up... Zooropa and Pop.

Maybe they're just going to be using CGI to create the illusion of Hansa while recording in that theater... Maybe they are just going to use REM's performance and replace the players (with sudden guest appearances by Michael Stipe)

Or maybe they'll have handpuppet's for The Fly, Mirrorball Man and MacPhisto (this time with 100%more phist) on stage at the theater, commenting and reenacting scenes from ZooTv... I wonder...

Wow!  You really are disillusioned.  I mean, even George Lucas didn't resort to CGI.

:-) No, good ol' Lucas personally trained groundhogs to look at Indy and watch rocket sleds...

Anyway, I thought my post was daringly innovative and full of future wonder and anticipation.

On another serious note, I wonder how U2 never dabbled in virtual reality related products in the late '90s.

Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop was... and then they fell off the precipice, like a fly off the wall

I meant something actually only present on the internet (well then after 2000 for bandwidth reasons) and they didn't really mine the topic lyrically either. Well they touched on it on No Line to some extent, but I meant Pop era.

I could see The Fly slotting in where I Will Follow/New Year's Day was.

They did rehearse it like 7 times.

Sarcasm doesn't become you.

But you are right, it is a mystery why they didn't.  When the Stones were on the contemporaneous Bridges To Babylon tour, they used the world wide web to ask fans to vote for a song that they wanted the Stones to play that night.

I actually meant it straight, what with Unknown Caller's thematic, but I have to admit there is no direct a connection.
Anyway U2 and their fascination with technology on a thematic level probably stopped with Bono's spiritual rejuvenation. It would've quickly aged and they probably knew it.

P.S.: I never thought sarcasm was meant to make one more appealing. :-)

Mine was a statement, but I agree, sarcasm is wearysome after a couple of years.

As soon as I saw this thread title I knew what the songs were  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The Fly is perfect for this stage. It demands a mental production. Unfortunately I see it at least rotating with UTEOTW, I say unfortunately only because I would want UTEOTW in every show ever.

Love Is Blindness is beautiful and I cannot wait to hear Edge's solo 20 years after ZooTV. I bet he could make it sound even better. Again though, it's a shame because this will almost definitely replace MOS, meaning only 3 NLOTH songs, unless they put MOS in place of Walk On.

And it's not a coincidence that they bring back The Fly a few weeks before Glasto.

Is there a Greek chorus in this one as well?

I would take anything extra from achtung that they're not playing now! Acrobat I think would be the absolute rarity! And would absolutely love to hear it!

Zoo staton!

I've thought right from the start of 360 that The Fly would be the perfect song for the claw.  I would love to see it's return.

If today is the return of the Fly, I wonder what form it will be in. Every tour it was played differently. I'm guessing it will be similar to the Vertigo version, since that was most recent and U2 themselves thought that those were the best performances of the song.

Can't tell if it's the band rehearsing or the crew soundchecking an old live performance (definitely it's no the album version). The only thing I know it's that is sounds great.
