Title: What do you think the hold up is for the Tour Announcement?
Post by: boom boom on October 21, 2014, 05:48:23 AM
Just wondering why the delay in announcing the tour and dates with the album already out.  Other bands usually put tickets on sale even before their new album is out.  Just recently I purchased tickets for Mellencamp concert in Toronto for May 2015 even before his new album was even out and also purchase tickets for the Who Hits 50 tour for a show that is 1 year away from today.  Are they waiting for SOE but Bono I think said that would probably be 1 year away which would be sept/oct 2015 and the tour is rumoured to begin may 2015.  Any thoughts?

In recent years the tour has not been announced at the same time as the album. But I think it will be very soon and possibly tie in with the end of their promotional tour and the annual announcement of the new gift for u2.com membership.
Planning on getting my second membership at that time to guarantee tickets especially as it will be in arenas !

Looking at my emails, the tickets only went on sale in april, with the concert on in July (09). So we might have a while longer to wait.

I might be overly optimistic, but I suspect the hold up regarding tour announcements is finishing Songs of Experience.

I think they might tour both at the same time.

They're going to do something as massive as the SoI surprise release.

Take your time U2!!! I need to save money, hoping for at least 5 shows next tour, my record was 7 for vertigo, but it was easier because I lived in NYC area then.

Edge & Adam were on Planet Rock, UK earlier today in what sounded like a pre-recorded interview.
Adam said the tor next year would start in the US and come to Europe after the summer. The show, he said, are to reflect "the two sides of the band".

nice to see a band not put on sale tickets for a tour 18 months down the line, having said that just waiting on the 100 for GA tickets curveball...my Depeche mode tickets last years were 50 with fee's i'm reckoning double that for u2, will be very interesting to see the pricing strategy for the tour, given best seats for the 360 were 150 - 175 in the UK and GA I think was 55

I agree... Songs of Experience will come out when they announce the tour.

Also, what about a Remastered Version of Rattle & Hum with Blu Ray DVD already?

I think it could be called "Innocence & Experience Tour" or something like that

Another very active unofficial U2 fan forum has a thread going w/ "credible" intelligence that the public on sale will start on November 22nd with presales before. Arenas w/ GA Floor and the tour will start in the US in May/June. This is an estimated window for the start and the announcement hasn't come yet because they are coordinating around NHL and NBA playoffs.

I can't vouch for this, but seems this poster has had similar info in the past that turned out to be true.

So there is your rumor weed for today.

What if they release SOE before a stadium run in the late summer of 2015? SOI in arenas with album tracks, rarities and fewer hits, and then SOE with more hits in stadiums?

Good point to think about the danger of SOE released, we may lose live versions of Innocence, but... I've been a fan since the 90s, I have GREAT confidence it won't be done on time! ;)

Negotiations and lawyers probably have a lot with the tour announcement. Hope they do it soon so I can schedule my spring and summer travel plans.

I have bought my bags of rice and beans for tour savings. I am hopeful to buy some seasoning for the rice and beans, but I need to know ticket prices first until I can.

Personally, I think they're finishing Songs of Experience, they'll do what they did in 2010 during 360, play a one-three songs from SoE occasionally

Update today from the original source of the tour announcement info I'm going with - US Tour dates should be set by the weekend of ~Nov. 8. I don't know if that means announced as well. Stay tuned at U2.com and U2Uruguay's Twitter as well as Interference...

I just think the hold up is due to trying to figure out the logistics of having two shows like they are contemplating and trying figure out how to let the fans differentiate between the two as said in one of their interviews.

If we are to believe this info that has been posted, and the guy has a decent track record it seems, then I think they can announce the tour dates w/o knowing right at this moment how to make the two shows they envision.

I don't think I want two shows so distinctly different - acoustic and full out rock concert. I like dwaltman's suggestion to do a 45 minute acoustic set within their normal show.
Title: Ticket Prices
Post by: mdmomof7 on November 05, 2014, 11:24:52 PM
"UPDATE: U2's management is considering charging $375 for the top price for tickets. This will be for the best lower level reserved sections. Other pricing levels have not been broken down yet. There may be a bit of a delay in finalizing the dates until after this weekend."

One shouldn't have to hear "Good news, your loan's been approved" in order to buy tickets.

I'm sure U2's management's reasoning is that the venues are 1/2 the size of the stadiums at least. So, they will charge 50% more.

Madonna's tour was mentioned by some post-ers. Her top price tickets were ~$350 for arenas.

Looks like GA for me for all concerts for this tour. I was thinking I might do both a seat and a GA on the residency dates, but guess that idea is over.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, because the good lowers for Elevation were $160, and the GA was what, $50? I think GA probably gets up to near $100, but not over, as I am sure they would love to be able to say 'yeah, the lowers are high, but the best seats in the house are still less than $100.'

The lower bowls will be high. That's exactly what I expected.

I don't think there's a hold up yet. We heard a while back the announcement would come in late November and the onsales in early December. I think that's still true.

My guess is they announce on Jimmy Fallon during the week of 11/17 that the tour will start in May in North America as we have heard previously. Get it out there before Thanksgiving in the USA and give people a couple of weeks to get ready for the ticket sales.

Well for ZOO TV U2 did not put tickets on sale for the first shows until just two to thee weeks before show time on the first leg. I have heard rumors tickets could be going on sale for the 2015 tour in this coming week, but nothing is certain yet.

Did you already see Fleetwood Mac? Friends did and said they were terrific. I'm still considering it, but the cheapest tickets are nosebleeds for $95.

I would be sceptical of any imminent announcement, simply from a rehabilitation perspective. I think the band & management would want to be sure that Bono was physically ready to undertake a tour and all that this entails before announcing anything. I would guess Bono will recuperate for remainder of this year and we will most likely hear something in early 2015

Yes, unless they think the injuries are going to delay the start of the tour, in which case they will have to start all over again scheduling the first leg, perhaps starting in Europe rather than the US and pushing the US to late/summer fall. If the original plan was actually to announce dates the last week of November, I think it will still happen on time as we are still 6 months out from when we expect the tour to start.

Then again, if we don't get the announcement, we may never know if it was delayed because of Bono's accident of if we just had bad intel.
