I would break my savings account to see both...but would really hate to have to choose between them.

I'd rather see a limited number of TJT shows and a full-scale, regular tour with the standards and some SoE material. I love TJT, but if they're only playing that album live, it's going to be a relatively short concert and I'm sure some fans would feel ripped off by that.

If it really is stadiums as billboard is reporting, then i don't think they'd be doing multiple nights in cities. It be more like 10 concerts arounds the US at rose bowl, giants stadium, etc.
one JT show and 3-4 IE for me

Yes, but the article also says a lengthy tour. 10 concerts is definitely not lengthy. Lengthy would be more like 25-30 shows in the US, some in Canada, maybe one or two in Mexico, then the rest in Europe.

Most bands doing these anniversary style gigs tend to play the album in full plus a few hits afterwards.

Patti Smith played Horses in full then the greatest hits.

I saw Kula Shaker last week play K in full and they also played the b sides and a few unreleased songs from that era as well as 3-4 new songs

If it's a lengthy stadium tour, I wonder if the shows will combine the JT anniversary and SOE? Perhaps the typical amount of new songs plus more JT songs than usual/rarities from JT? Guess we'll learn more soon enough.

If they're trying to match their 360 tour, they're going to have to do close to 25 songs. Now, if that's TJT (11 tracks) plus another 14 tracks (let's say 4 from SoE/SoI and the rest from their hits), I'd be OK with that.

Not that excited for stadium shows. See one stadium show and/or many arena shows. The venue and cities played will determine my vacation plans.

Plus, I'd like to hear the new album before I decide what show(s) to see.

I've never seen them live before, so if they do end up doing both in the UK I can consider myself very lucky and very skint!

I remember how excited/happy I was to see them for the first time in 2009. You will have a blast at the concert and it'll probably make you like their music even more.

SOE. We don't need U2 to be reminiscing about the good ol' days and scrapping the entire album.

On the JT reissue there's the track Introduction to Songs of Experience...

Maybe they will play JT in full then Introduction to Songs of Experience and tell the crowd they've spent the last 30 years writing SOE and then play a few tracks from that

JT tour will get the casual fans like my Mam and Dad back in the stadiums ... it'd do very well ... there's still an army of U2 fans who went off them in the 90's when they went "Weird" my parents love everything up to Rattle and Hum. I work with lots of people who say the same. U2 got my folks interested again when they released Beautiful Day.  When I told them about maybe a JT tour they seemed VERY interested in seeing that.

This is the beginning of u2 cashing out and becoming a greatest hits act.

If they hadn't gone weird in the 90s, I'm not sure I'd be as much of a fan of their music.  ;D

But yeah, you are right, for casual U2 fans, the stuff from the 80s and early-mid 00s is very loved. I still don't know that these casual fans would be OK with a strict TJT tour (and none of their hits) but who knows, I could be wrong. I know my parents like more of a greatest hits set.

OK, super envious that you got to see them on the original tour. Seriously.

I took my folks to see U2 in Rome on the Vertigo tour ... They were disappointed that they didn't get more of Unforgettable Fire ... My Mum was sad that they didn't play Party Girl.

I know loads of people they're age (early 50's) who don't care at all about Achtung Baby but know every word of every song from Under A Blood Red Sky, Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Rattle and Hum. Pretty much any track from those albums are greatest hits for a lot of casual fans.

So many people say to me that they can't stand U2 but love UF or JT.

A well publicised JT tour could see U2 accepted again and repair some damage done by the iTunes release

I saw "The Joshua Tree" concert in Pontiac in the late '80s and it was incredible.  But, given the choice, I would rather see a new tour with a mix of hits rather than a re-hash of the old era.  I'm sure there are many fans who would prefer to see their '80's style show, though.

I was in there with you. This video was shot by someone in the press box. Drop down from where this camera was to the lower bowl and go a dozen rows closer to the field, and you would've been in my seat.     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grkbFIn6Kcg

While it'd be cool to hear/see them play Exit, Red Hill Mining Town, and possibly One Tree Hill and In God's Country, I'd prefer a 20 year celebration of POP with them playing that album in its entirety.

That's cool, Friend.  I always remember April 30, 1987 as the date of my first U2 concert.  (I had seen them at the "Conspiracy of Hope" in Chicago, but I don't count that...).  I had my tickets well in advance and waited ever so impatiently for that date to arrive.  They did not disappoint and even exceeded my expectations.  Remember the opening chords of "Streets"?  Such great times!

It's interesting that you consider U2 fans from the 80's to be "casual fans"? My first U2 concert was @ Radio City Music Hall in 1984. I was too young to go see them when they played Malibu Beach Club on Long Island in 1981- so I sat by listening on the radio while WLIR simulcast it live. Each subsequent tour, I was on the floor for as many concerts as they played in NYC area. The Joshua Tree Tour shows being some of my best memories of my teenage years. (Those were the days of pre-internet fan-networking and comaraderie - anyone remember Selma and Firework?) True, with the ZooTV tour and the release of PoP, I became disenamoured and stopped listening to them until they came back to their senses with the release of HTDaAB.

Personally, I would love to see them play the full album along with a handful of other favorites - much like RUSH with their Time Machine Tour. As it is, RUSH are 10 years older and still played 3hr shows on their last swing. There's no reason they can't do a few shows in each of a limited number of cities.

I'm proud to say I never let go of my U2 fandom and always found something to like on their albums.  Were "Pop" and "Zooropa" challenging?  Yes, but the fans who dropped out in that period missed out on some great music.

Nope - I'm too much of a music fan and too honest to settle for anything less than their best. Never stopped being a fan, but wasn't going to waste my time or money on garbage like Bono's "MacPhisto" phase. To each his own.

Were either of you guys at the Zoo TV show in Auburn Hills, MI? I wasn't, but my brother in law was. I guess it's known as the infamous pizza show.

It's times like these I wish I had been born a decade earlier to have enjoyed the JT/Zoo concerts.

Some folks like disco/electronica - others prefer rock-and-roll.  I became a fan of a post-punk/rock-and-roll band - that band has finally returned. I suppose we should agree to disagree.  ;)

JT in its entirety would be spectacular.

The costumes and personas on the Zoo TV were (to me) fun and entertaining because they were done in moderation, not to mention the fact that the tour was in support of a great album.  It was when they wore god-awful costumes for an entire tour (Popmart) that I had a problem with it.

What I wouldn't give now to have seen U2 on the Joshua Tree Tour!  They did play Chicago on that tour, and I live in Milwaukee.  Not that far away really, especially not for U2 at their peak! The two tours I most regret not seeing were JT and Elevation.

I would definitely do both if I could. If I had to pick I'd prefer the new material and a standard show. TJT is my all-time favorite album, so obviously I'd be thrilled to hear it live, but I wouldn't want to miss out on the new stuff and the surprises that come with a new tour.
