Well, the band is filming with audience inside a warehouse.
I doubt we'll know before it's released. At the invisible shooting, I think people signed contracts to not tell.

Apparently they did multiple songs in a nightclub along with the shooting. A guy is claiming he asked someone who heard the song, and it wasn't "the best thing". Not sure how much I believe this though.

Finally, and probably for one time only, @u2 is not my source of U2 info, but I'll be the source of info for you :-)
I was at Amsterdam/ Westergas this afternoon, seeing the band walk by. Edge first, rest of them approx. 30 minutes later. All very relaxed and in very good mood. While waiting, a (local) worker confirmed the new song was not 'The best thing'. It was however both rock with some dance influence. He heard the song 'all day long'.
Title: Re: Filming what?
Post by: monopoly on July 28, 2017, 03:12:15 PM
U2 Valencia says otherwise. Three songs performed and "The Best Thing" was one of them. This seems believable

I wasn't inside, so no guarantees. But another source on u2start.com also says they played one song 5 times over (and one new songs over the PA), and it was not 'The best Thing'. We'll know what happened, sometime...

Yeah, filler.  A throwaway.  They could do so much better.

Hadnt they said around the release of SOI that they were hoping to have the next album out by the time some new music format was ready with apple? Maybe it actually will coincide with some sort of apple release.

I hope not.
Apple have been talking about DH Audio for some time and it's all a big con. This is where U2 have really sold out ;  by promoting Apple and Beats.

He did.

Word is, via U2 Valencia, is that the song name may actually be "Blackout," and the aforementioned, the lights go out, is a line in the song.  Who knows?  Could be the same song.

Post by: WookieeWarrior10 on July 28, 2017, 06:02:23 PM
U2 are never going to collaborate with Apple again, at least not for a major album release. That's a foolish way to give the public a reason to hate SOE before it's even heard.

There's an update on the atu2 homepage...

Confirmed Song filmed is called "The Blackout." A second song was played but not live, it was the CD. It's called "lights to home". (As the edge rumored to have been his favorite)

So I guess 6 confirmed songs for SOE including Red Flag Day and American Soul

"U2 are about to play two concerts at the Amsterdam Arena, but it turns out that is not their only business in town. At the Gashouder nightclub of the Westergasfabriek, the band filmed a video clip in front of a small audience on Friday night. We believe 200 to 300 people were in attendance, including some lucky fans who responded to U2.com's call for attendees earlier this week.

The video clip is for U2's next single. An anonymous attendee has confirmed to us that the song is titled The Blackout. U2 performed it live for the assembled audience five times.
After the performance, a second new song was played over the PA, entitled Lights to Home. We can confirm that U2 did not play The Best Thing (or, if they insist on another long title that will be abbreviated by all and sundry, You're the Best Thing About Me), a song that leaked online last year.

Both songs are described as groovy and nineties-sounding, with heavy bass and guitar. The Blackout has a prominent lyric about "when the lights go out" that got the audience jumping."

yea i know a hardcore fan on fb that is 100% all in that this IS the next single and there's no question that SOE will be out in Dec.

*sigh*

i brought up the This Is cover they made a video for, SBS for the Agit8 thing and Invisible. i mean this could be some one-off thing. Like This Is or Invis.

Could be. But filming, two new songs...this is SOE's first single video ? Blackout...so not Best thing about me, or the (already played live) Little things that give you away.

Getting great feelings from reading the u2gigs write up and the description of The Blackout. 90s sounding with heavy bass and guitar is enough to get the senses ringing with anticipation. With Zoo Station, Elevation and Magnificent mentioned, with the added piece about the crowd jumping at the chorus. This hints at a great hook and it could potentially be another great U2 track. Very early days but this is very exciting!

There may be a bit of a difference between the band saying it sounds like the 90s and the group of fans saying the same.

For the invisible video, contracts were given out. They then had you turn off your phone and put a paper/sticker over the camera. If you were seen filming, you were thrown out.

But could Blackout be the Fender song? Let the first single be that! Please!!

But could Blackout be the Fender song? Let the first single be that! Please!!

nope, completely wrong

Getting great feelings from reading the u2gigs write up and the description of The Blackout. 90s sounding with heavy bass and guitar is enough to get the senses ringing with anticipation. With Zoo Station, Elevation and Magnificent mentioned, with the added piece about the crowd jumping at the chorus. This hints at a great hook and it could potentially be another great U2 track. If 'Blackout' is half as good as the brilliant Garbage song of the same name it'll be good.

One of my absolutely favourite songs of the last couple of years or so.

I think some groove is over due, but in all likeness will be of the same ilk as magnificent, rather than zoo station (which incidentally is magnificent).

There's the big riff, that to my ears was a little cheesy and in elevation and goyb territory.
And something that sounded interesting with vocals and possibly a song outro.. I hope they kept the latter part, but for all we know could be the same song.

That clip is very deceiving... while it could be a roaring return to form, I could easily see it being the next bombastic installment in the Elevation, Vertigo, Boots, The Miracle quartet.

You could probably cut a 30 second portion of Elevation and have me fooled into thinking that it's a badass rocker.

My first reaction to seeing the clip way back when was "Oh, they've finally caught the rocker they've been chasing the last decade and a half." The distortion he gets on the riff at 3:58 makes it plausible to me that it's Blackout. And given the crowd's reaction, let's hope they've finally nailed it and can move on with their lives.

I don't understand why some of you are going bananas over a song title. The song title has zero correlation to how a song sounds. If anything, blackout could be more pop than The Best Thing. Song For Someone sounds like a title for death metal.

The kygo live remix is annoying because it has bono moaning on repeat multiple times. The beach clip/studio version is bearable

I listened to a clip someone posted on here and i seem to recall that line....could be wrong though.

I remember i found the vocal really irritating, it was Bono in high register "yelping" mode - but i also realise that remixes and specifically dance remixes don't really necessarily represent the actual song...

guys please ignore the "it's so 90s!" stuff. they say that or compare the new albums to the 90s all the time. it's cliche at this point.

I remember reading an article in Q magazine that was previewing ATYCLB and it compared Elevation to The Breeders Cannonball....now as a massive fan of Kim Deal and that song you can imagine how excited I was....
That article was sacrilege.
Kim, et al, should be offended!!!

I can't remember the exact wording but i definitely recall Cannonball being mentioned and maybe something about a 'Sonar' sound maybe....it was a long time ago!

I am sure I still have that magazine somewhere in the attic, I definitely bought it at the time. I remember the headline on the front was something like 'U2: Trust them - they have come to save rock n' roll' or something equally ridiculous. Elevation was compared to both The Fly and Cannonball...now that would be some song! I think the 'sonar' bit was the sound at the start of the album version of Elevation.

It was my first experience of waiting for a new U2 album and the excitement was unreal. It really felt like the beginning of a new and exciting era for U2...which ultimately ended up giving us songs like Stand Up Comedy and Boots.

guys please ignore the "it's so 90s!" stuff. they say that or compare the new albums to the 90s all the time. it's cliche at this point.

You've made me feel better about my fading memory, thanks.

anyone out there think it's possible we're getting a video for each song on SOE? Seems possible they just filmed two in Amsterdam and a third could be a live version of Little Things. There's a lot of Joshua Tree tour left after the month break in August to film the rest.  Videos for each song could coincide with the new format on Apple or it could be similar to what Lemonade was (a film released on HBO).

Rumours are circulating that the new iPhone 8 won't be widely available until November/December - which is roughly the same time we think SOE is coming out.  Maybe there will be the OPTION of downloading the album via video format (wasn't this something Bono was talking about as being a possible future album release method (with Apple) back in 2014 after the release of SOI to just about everyone).  Looks like there'll face recognition software on the phone regarding unlocking the phone.  Maybe they should do face and voice recognition at the same time - the phone will only unlock if the user stares at the screen and sings a chorus-line of The Little Things That Give You Away, for an extra security measure (applies to all non-U2 fans as well!!).

That would be pretty interesting, since is supposed to have some next level AR capabilities.

I'm surprised the Joshua tree isn't available in 8k video album format like the concert films.

Except for those that don't use Apple products and had to buy the album.
That was annoying - people getting the album for free that did not want it and legitimate fans having to pay for the album.  Of course I would have paid for the album on CD regardless.

I meant 'easy' as in less invasive, as opposed to easy in being fortunate to have the album for free - I've never had an iphone either.

Maybe next time you'll be forced to take a free iPhone with the album. No doubt that will annoy some people too. Liam Gallagher for starters.

Whatever U2 do they will annoy some people.

Since "South Park" represented Bono as made of Poo; everyone thinks they can take pot shots at the band and especially Bono

That stupid cartoon was the turning point in the whole "U2 aren't cool" diatribe.

bono has always had some cool about him. But he does look ridic at times..

They were generally cool circa 91-93.  I considered them to be 91-98.
They looked good 1980.

Out side of this, it's mullets and waste coats or middle aged men in straw hats etc.
