Title: SOE Cover
Post by: mc on August 22, 2017, 04:27:29 PM
If you Google U2 and scroll through the album pictures there is a SOE album picture. Four band members muliticoloured squares (a crane coming out of Adams head!)
Is this legit??

that wasn't on the tour program i bought.  those are the silk screens they gave away for the fan club gift last year- only they were B&W.

The cover is the black and white shot of bono's son and edges daughter, holding hands?
That seems a pretty safe bet.

That is from the u2.com gift last year but seems to be fan made art. Not official.

The one with Bono's son and The Edge's daughter is a much better album cover. That would be their best album cover in years (I actually liked Anton Corbjin's All That You Can't Leave Behind cover). No Line is cool I think, but the minimalist artwork for that didn't equate to what was an unbelievably messy album that compromised the search for a 'vibe' for a bland commercial sound; it's difficult therefore to separate that album cover with the album's contents.

The other one reminds me of Pop - all the members are situated in the same quarter as that one, but generally looks like a photoshop image.

That one with the band faces morphed with buildings is obviously a fan-made idea, right?  Those pics were in the SOI programme, and it's obviously modeled off the Pop album cover.  Clever enough idea, but nothing the band would do.

Yes. And it's a beautiful cover. And we have to remember that Larry's son was on SOI's cover. So it makes sense.

It'd be kinda cool if they did the gold lines like on TJT and UF, since they say keep saying there's so many similarities from that time period and today.

The cover, if that Eli/Sian image is the cover, will be only marginally better than SOI.

i think the cover they teased is rather dull and unimaginative. i know they're trying to fit into the themes of the Blake poems, but still- looks like a pair of amish hipsters.

I dont lkke the 'kids holding hands' cover either. I would rather have something futuristic/non-themed.
I dont really like personal musiclike 'Iris'. Just cannot relate to it as its Bonos life. AB and JT were none personal so you could dream your own dreams to the music.

I wouldn't mind an actual color photograph. With the exception of October and the 3 '90s albums, every U2 album has a black and white pic on the cover.

I think it's supposed to be a throwback kind of image. Like boy and war. She's wearing a combat helmet

U2 looking backwards? Now that is uncharacteristic!  ;D

For a band who have used some incredible visuals in their live shows their album artwork has been consistently boring and dull throughout their career.

Ultimately the music is what really matters but they really have been guilty of a lot of uninspiring covers down the years IMO.

Outside of October, Bomb and SOI I liked all the covers. For all we know that boy/girl image might be a single cover and not an album cover ?

Love it or hate it, that's going to be the cover. If you don't like it, go ahead and take the time now to get your head around it and get used to it. This is a two-part thing. SOI featured Larry's son, this is going to feature two of Bono and Edge's kids, and maybe just maybe Young Lord Clayton will be on the cover of Songs Of Ascent. Of course, by the time they release it, that child will probably be grown with kids. :)

I mean, honestly, y'all: That image was put onscreen at shows, and they used a version of it for the mailer this past week. THAT's the cover.

What's the symbolism of this artwork? Are they suggesting Adam's brain is under construction?

I read somewhere that those places/buildings were picked by the band members as photographs used in the tour programme on I&E.

It's a cool concept...

Larry is definitely green! He had a grewn hue on Pop as well didn't he?

But yeah Larry and The James Larkin statue are green on that design.

YES Larry IS greenish on POP, and the other three are also sporting the same colors on this new shot...do we DARE hope that the new album will have some POP sounding songs? Ah, be still my heart!

Yes, it has to be the album cover. It was displayed at the end of each Joshua tree show - good advertising ploy - millions of people have already seen it.

I gotta say these recent album covers have sucked.  NLOTH was just a gray fog; then there's the weird hugging picture with Larry; and now Bono and Edge's kids looking like they walked out of American Gothic.  I miss the days of AB/Zooropa/Pop where there was some imaginative $#!t going on...
