Love it, but not a classic

It's funny, I'm quite hard on U2 as of late (SoI is by far my least favourite album of theirs) and usually find their radio-friendly, single material the least interesting out of their back catalogue. But I have to say, I love this track and particularly this cut of it. A lesser band would've released the Kygo remix as the official version. U2 chose to actually play their instruments.

I wonder what the record is for the amount of threads created on the day of release of a new song.

Jeez.

Bass - great. Adam again shines (as he does so much on The Blackout)
The verses - good, with some melody
The chorus - bad, makes the song nearly unlistenable to me now after about 20 tries today.

Bono's voice is just too loud and FAR to high register. Awful. He ruins the song.

Sorry.

I don't want a whole album of it. But it's an OKAY song

Yeah I'd say its an okay song. Of the new songs, I find this one to be the weakest so far though its not totally bad. It has the poppy sensibility of Walk On I think.

It's a good song. Reminds me of Desire off Rattle and Hum (not musically) as it's a fun single and upbeat -- probably not the best song on the LP, but it sure does get you moving.

Not the kind of u2 song i would choose to listen to. Likely an album skipper for me

I love it.  It's accessible but has subtle depth that comes out with repeated listens.

Jeez.

Especially threads with non-words in the title!  ;D

I agree that his vocals are mixed to high in context to the music but he sounds good to my ears.  I don't get all the hate regarding his voice on here.  Sure I love his lower register and wish he would start using it more (if he can) but his vocals are good.  I don't know how anyone can say they are actually bad.

Like it least of the three SOE tracks we've heard, but it's still good. Waiting to hear any live performances of it (Fallon, this or next tour) and alongside the rest of SOE when released.

Lyrically, it seems superficially transparent, but upon a closer look there are some unique things going on.  Musically, there are some nice touches.  I like Edge's vocals in the end part.  The chorus is so damn catchy it ought to be a crime, lol.  A bit too poppy for my tastes, but okay.  I can see it getting serious radio time, much like SFS did awhile back.

That's exactly what I'm been saying about this song since I first heard it... U2 just can't seem to get a solid mix with a song these days. It's a case of too many cooks in the kitchen, where we see multiple directions taken by 5+ producers/consultants and the resulting sound is squashed to death and sonically uninteresting.
