Interesting. So it is official now, they are bringing back the Joshua Tree tour. It will likely be a very similar setlist to 2017 playing the entire album in order. It was my guess that if they were to do something at the end of the year, it would be something different from Joshua Tree, like a retro-Love Town Tour etc. But they have selected the Joshua Tree, I guess since over time, this is still the most popular album worldwide, even though initially back in the day in Australia, Rattle And Hum sold more than Joshua Tree.

Now one wonders if the "nostalgia" trip will continue in 2021/2022 with something for the 30th anniversary of Achtung Baby/ZOO TV. I think the fact that their pulling the Joshua Tree out again for many shows makes it more likely that we might see an Achtung Baby/ ZOO TV retro tour. But still not a certainty given that the band has always been committed to new music and new tours and this would delay that. But it shows that the Joshua Tour of 2017 was not a sudden one off.

Not counting the songs that BB King's band played with U2 during the Love Town Tour, you still have Desire, All Along The Watchtower, God Part II, All I Want Is You, Van Diemen's Land, & Hawkmoon 269. Out of that lot the only songs U2 have played on a relatively consistent basis since Love Town are Desire & All I Want Is You. Given the band's track record I would say this tour could see 1, maybe 2, token songs off of Rattle & Hum. BUT if the Joshua Tree 2017 setlists are any indication, it is more likely they won't play ANY songs from R&H. Also, they did play some token songs from R&H during the 360 Tour in Perth & Sydney back in 2010 so they could easily be of the mindset "been there, done that".

Very exciting stuff. At least the set list debate will only have to worry about what the other 10 or so songs will be...

What did they open the Lovetown tour with? Would be a good throwback to do something that connects to that too.

And so the setlist speculation commences...:)

The pre-TJT songs seems fine. Then followed by TJT. But it's what happens in the third act that's up for debate. As it's clearly a nostalgia tour, it makes sense to pack in the big songs: BD, Elevation, Desire, One, MW, EBTTRT. Anything else? Assuming it will be a 6-8 song set to finish up with...

Chopped and changed between Hawkmoon 269 and Streets.

Would be very happy with Hawkmoon to open the concert. But, suspect half the stadium will be going "what the heck is that song"

They won't start with it - the pre-TJT set is all pre-TJT songs. Remember that Rattle & Hum is the best selling U2 album in Australia, so a few more people than you think might know it. But I'd put good money on them NOT playing it (much as I'd love to hear it again). In fact I don't think Bono's voice could do it justice anymore anyway...

Hi all

Just planning ticket purchases for Melbourne. Is there anyone that can assist with what the different 'Categories' may be like seating wise at 'Marvel' stadium (eucchh). I'm most interested in the 'oh-so-affordable' Category Three (see below from ticketmaster website)? Tossing up between this and GA - frankly the vibe in the stadium last Australian tour in the seats was average - I think the stadium size and the number of punters turning up for the hits and for a quick eyeball was a real challenge.

Reserved Seating:
Category One: $366.80
Category Two: $264.34
Category Three: $192.98
Category Four General Admission Standing: $131.53
Category Five: $60.96

Also - just to add that they never toured here with JT first time (the first time) round so I'm thrilled about this.

Thank you very much!

Iím guessing Category 3 will be top tier seats adjacent to the screen. The more expensive being lower tier seating and the cheaper the end furthest away from the screen?

Hi all,

I am from India (currently living in Sydney, Australia). I have been listening to U2 since the last 20 years. I have practically worshipped the band. I grew up on it. These guys have been my everything in music.

Back in India, we hardly ever get to see bands like U2, ever. All my life I have had this dream of watching them perform, in close proximity.

In 2010, I was in America, only for 6 months. U2 had announced a tour back then. I was overjoyed and I had got the ticket for it. Unfortunately, the tour was cancelled. That I was the closest I ever came to realising my life's dream of watching them live.

So, this news today, no one can understand how much this means to me.

I just want to ask - I am confused about what ticket to buy. Money is not a consideration for such a dream. I just want to be on the first row. Also, how do I get the ticket during the pre-sales? I have never attended a concert like this. If someone can guide me, I will be grateful.

Thanks,

addie

If you want access to U2.com pre-sales you need to join. It will get you access to the second wave of access in the Wires Group. You may want to check Live Nation pre-sale activity (you will need to sign up) or sometimes local stadium sponsors do pre-sale. Other than that itís the public on sale.

If you want near the front itís GA you are looking for.

From the look of the map, yes, that sounds correct. But I was also wondering about the Red zone. Isn't that in any way better?

If it is GA only, should I, ideally, arrive very early to the concert?

Thanks again. This means a lot to me and is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I want to make the right decision.

If itís the same stage setup as in Europe, RZ is definitely worth it. It was next to the catwalk. They were really close. RZ for I&E and E&I was not worth it. There was a gap between the catwalk and RZ.

I wish to God I could go to this tour -- see U2 and get to see Australia! But I just don't have the time or money this year.

Also, I hate to keep making the same sort of observation, but where's the Singapore date? I don't see it listed. And I randomly came across something with Singopore fans getting all excited. Don't want to give them false hope.

If money is no object, here....then just splurge on Red Zone.  You won't be disappointed.  Plus you're doing a little good along the way as some of the money is charitable.

Hi all
I am looking at the Brisbane show. Does anyone know the difference between the ďVIP hot seat gold ticketĒand the ďcategory 1 ReserveĒ seating. Appears to maybe be the same seats? But way more expensive. Apart from that canít see much else unless you want one free ($3) drink and a lanyard?

Not sure as Iíve never purchased those tickets but I think sometimes there is a gift in addition. Worth checking for sure before purchasing

Awesome. That is so cool!!! I hope you have a great time. If you can get first or second row at the B-stage, thatís the best place to be. Get a GA if you can, and get in line about 5-6 hours before the show starts. Otherwise, donít worry about being front row. With this specific show, what you get to see from the back is amazing! Absolutely beautiful. Enjoy the show!

I think it's intentional that they are playing Syd on 22nd Nov, the anniversary day of Mick H's death.

Cities in order are: Brisbane > Melb > Adel > Syd > Perth ... but you would think they would just travel along the coast in order of city/distance: Bris > Syd  > Melb > Adel > Perth.
If the 22nd date is intentional, I would expect they play Stuck in a Moment... BUT what would be GLORIOUS, is if 'some' or all members of INXS came on stage and they all played together... an INXS song(s)/medley... combo of U2 song..  Serious how good would that be? Why would you NOT want to do this? Such an exciting guest appearance combo. PLEASE GOD. Let it happen.

Yep, I think something will happen on the 22nd. I'm hoping they play Gone, but yeah they're more likely to play Stuck   ???

Were you there at the Sydney Popmart show? The tribute to Hutch was an amazing moment, one of the best things I've seen at a concert. Bono got all the stadium lights turned off during One, while thunder & lightning crashed above the crowd. Michael's family & his band were in attendance.

To your other point, when the tour rumours first appeared I thought it was a weird route. But doing more research it looks like they often don't take the most direct route.

For 360 it was MEL>BRIS>SYD>PERTH. Vertigo was BRIS>SYD>ADL>MEL. Popmart MEL>BRIS>SYD. ZooTV was MEL>ADL>BRIS>SYD.

Part of the reason may be because there are multiple stages. I believe there only one screen for this tour, but multiples of the main stage & structure. I think there were two CLAWS here, & one screen. While the US (& probably Europe) got three CLAWS. So one is being set up in one venue, while it's being torn down in another

Congratulations addie, you're going to have a GREAT time!

Yeah, I had tickets to that 2010 leg of the 360 tour in the US. Luckily I could make the postponed dates.

As most people have said, the VERY BEST spots are in General Admission standing (GA). These are the very best spots around most of the b-stage (Tree stage), & against the rail of the main stage (band will spend a higher proportion of their time here).

But to get these very best spots in GA you have to wait, & wait a very long time! Possibly from the night before the show for the very best spots! I'm not sure what happened in Australia for 360, but for the US & Europe there has been an "unofficial" line forming, & they've been using a check-in system. So you didn't have to stay in line all the time, though often did on the day of the show. Arriving early the day of the show should bet you a spot on the rail that is better, or at least comparable to any Red Zone spots. You'll get very good spots in GA by arriving at midday. Or later if you're happy to be two or three people off the rail.

But if waiting all day is not for you, then Red Zone will get the best spots available for a late arrival. To get the very best spots in Red Zone you'll probably still have to wait. Probably from sometime in the early afternoon. A check-in system has been used at some shows for Red Zone too. Again, it's unofficial, some people hate it, some don't.

There are disadvantages to Red Zone. Being against the rail in the corner between the main stage and the catwalk won't give you a decent view of the band on that stage, due to the height of the catwalk ramp. Note: for the image below, this is not where the band perform! The band performs much further to the right. You can see Bon's mic at the far right of the image, near the edge of the screen.

For 2017 there was a boom camera on the rail of Red Zone at the b-stage. This obstructed views of the main stage for areas of the Red Zone near the b-stage.

The Red Zone rail where the catwalk joins the b-stage will give you a good view of the main stage, but you'll be looking at the bands rears when they perform on the b-stage.

So it's a tough call. For the VERY BEST spots you want GA, be prepared to wait, for a long time! Or spend the money for Red Zone, & have a more relaxed day, & a much more relaxed time at the show, with the opportunity to move about.

Thank you so much for such a descriptive reply - I think some of you do understand what this means to me.

I think I am going to go with the GA - the only "problem" I see is going in early (like, morning) and spending the whole day there waiting. But I do not see a problem. I have waited for as long as I could remember for this moment. I think it is only deserving to end a monumental wait like this.

My other doubt - and I hope you do answer soon - is if I am going for the GA, does it really matter if I get it via pre-sales? I can spend $50 and become a subscriber now but is it worth it? concert-wise?

Thank you again,
addie

The Red Zone rail where the catwalk joins the b-stage will give you a good view of the main stage, but you'll be looking at the bands rears when they perform on the b-stage.

So it's a tough call. For the VERY BEST spots you want GA, be prepared to wait, for a long time! Or spend the money for Red Zone, & have a more relaxed day, & a much more relaxed time at the show, with the opportunity to move about

Thank you again,
addie

There will be GA tickets available when the 'proper' ticket sales start. Becoming a U2 subscriber won't get you any better tickets.  The trick will be at the actual show - how to get a good position in a general admission area. I remember getting lucky in that regard at a show on the Zoo TV tour - but there was no science to it, pure luck! Ended up right next to the b-stage...

Sorry, I only just got back to the @u2 forum now. I would have told you to sign up for the Live Nation presale (which is free). It's currently going on, & will continue until the the 8th I think. There were GA's for Sydney available until only a few minutes ago, 8 hours into the sale! For both Brisbane & Adelaide you can still purchase 4 GA tickets! I'd sign up to Live Nation anyway, just in case more GA's are added to Sydney.

The general sale will definitely have GA's available. These are very large fields, & demand doesn't look very strong so far.

I wonder what the hold up is with confirming the Singapore date - presumably there are other events scheduled that need to be bumped.

Kallang stadium is the largest in Singapore-so i guess thats where the gig will be. just hope they confirm the date soon so i can book time off work. rumour has it its due to happen in between Australia and Japan- so last few days of November....

Will the band give their support slot to upcoming bands in Singapore, japan and south korea ?

JT 2017 was fantastic....so glad this tour was announced....hurry up November.....

FYI addie, GA'S ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AGAIN FOR SYDNEY (SCG) IN THE LIVE NATION PRESALE.

Sign up to Live Nation, then visit this link,

https://www.livenation.com.au/show/1267180/u2-the-joshua-tree-tour-2019/sydney/2019-11-22/en

I actually enjoy some aspects of the wait in line, meeting lots of other passionate U2 fans from all over the world. If it's hot, baking in the sun is no fun. But November shouldn't be too bad. Looks like we may be lined up on the western side of the SCG, which wouldn't be great with the afternoon sun. If we're lucky we'll be lined up to the south of the stadium.

Thanks,

addie

My first U2 show was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life (and all U2 shows are, but I will never forget watching the four of them walk on stage). Enjoy yourself, have an amazing time!

Pretty slim I think. There are still tickets in five categories for the show on the 12th. From memory sales were low in Brisbane for the last couple of tours I think?

Zero. It was never planned, there's no room for it in the schedule (they usually have two days off between cities).

Well despite being a fan of U2 for many years I have never actually been to a U2 concert.  So I have got tickets to my first concert and apparently according to my sister who got them they are good seats.  Cost an arm and a leg but my family contributed as an early Xmas present!. Standing and up the back was $180 so we paid a bit more for good seats.  I am waiting on a knee reconstruction so standing for the whole concert is out of the question.  I am quite excited to at last seeing them play live.

I'm 99% sure there will be a second Melbourne show. There's planning in place for it. I'd say they're just waiting until they sell some more of the Cat 1 tickets (last I looked, they had just a few left, & some Cat 2's).  I'd expect Melbourne 2 will be announced next week, with Singapore (& maybe even Seoul 2).

I havenít seen anything solid, but Iíve heard murmurs about it too. As always with U2, donít believe it until you see it, but still, it would be so cool.

Yeah I've been hearing rumours ever since Elevation so I've learnt not to get my hopes up. Would have been nice if they announced all Asian dates at once though. I'm going to feel a bit silly spending so much on Singapore if they end up in my backyard a couple of weeks later.
