Title: Favorite U2 song for every letter
Post by: InThisHeartland on November 30, 2008, 01:50:41 PM
All I want is you -- beats Angel of harlem and acrobat
Bad -- beats Beutiful day by the smallest amount imaginable
Crumbs From your table -- beats COBL barely
Do You Feel Loved -- beats Discotheque
Electric Co -- beats elevation, electrical storm and EBTTRT
Fly, The -- obviously better than Fire
Gloria -- beats God Pt 2 (sorry God Part 2)
Heartland -- In my opinion, best U2 song of all time
In Gods Country -- tough one, but better than I will follow and ISHFWILF (worst acronym ever)
Jesus Christ -- is this one really the only J song? i dont even like it
Kite -- awesome song
Love Is Blindness -- honorable mention to Lady w/ spinning head
Miss Sarajevo (Live in Milan 2005) -- best version of one of U2's best songs, yes, it even beats mysterious ways
New Years Day -- Numb? No contest
One ... Tree Hill -- One is no match for One Tree Hill
Pride -- beats Please by a little
Q..... nevermind
Running To Stand Still -- only competition is red hill mining town
S..... why do they have to be so cruel? (irony) so many great ones. i guess...
Sunday Bloody Sunday -- i also love Sweetest thing, Stay, Staring at the sun, Sort of homecoming, spanish eyes. and stuck in a moment. whew!
Trip through Your Wires -- beats tryin to throw your arms...
Unforgettable Fire -- another classic
Vertigo -- easily beats Van Diemans Land.
W..... wow. definitely worse than S. i cant decide, so....
WOMANFISH
Xanax and Wine
Yahweh
Zoo station -- great song

sorry if this was too long, but i want to see what other people think and i dont want to do my american government homework

Hey InThisHeartland,  this is a good cheat sheet for the new ABC game they have started.  They suggested it should be U2 related and you just gave us the alphabet of answers! Check it out on the other thread.

All I want is You
Bad
City Of Blinding Lights
Desire
Exit (live from the movie)
Forty
Gone
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
I Will Follow
J. Swallow
Kite
Love is Blindness
Mercy
New Year’s Day
Out of Control
Pride
Q - hopefully a song on the new album that starts with a Q
Running To Stand Still
Silver and Gold
The Wanderer
Ultraviolet
Vertigo
Where The Streets Have No Name
Xanax And Wine
Your Blue Room
Zoo Station

I had to go with J. Swallow because at least they wrote that.  In keeping "THE Wanderer" for T (Where the Streets... was a given for W), I had to use full titles for all of them, knocking out the Fly, so I chose 40 to replace it.

Any title that started with "The" or "A" I used the next word of the title.

a)   Acrobat
b)   Beautiful Day
c)   City of Blinding Lights
d)   Daddy’s Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car
e)   Elevation
f)   Fly, The
g)   God Part II
h)   Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
i)   I Will Follow
j)   N/A (I have never heard any “J” U2 songs)
k)   Kite
l)   Lemon
m)   Miss Sarajevo
n)   New Year’s Day
o)   One
p)   Pride (In the Name of Love)
q)   N/A (I have never heard any “Q” U2 songs)
r)   Running to Stand Still
s)   Sunday Bloody Sunday
t)   Two Hearts Beat as One
u)   Unforgettable Fire, The
v)   Vertigo
w)   With or Without You
x)   Xanax and Wine
y)   Your Blue Room
z)   Zooropa

Oddly enough, the last two on this list, y & z are actually my two favorite U2 songs.  P was probably the hardest letter, because I rate Pride and Please about equally.

To the far right are the numbers of how these songs scored on my '129 U2 songs in order' list

#58 4) "40" (hmm, 4 isn't really a letter of the alphabet now is it? Oh well, it kind of looks like an "A" if you tilt your head, squint, and close your eyes.  Also, it's competition is 4th of July...enough said)
#11 A) All I Want Is You (Acrobat has no ground to stand on vs. this song)
#1 B) Beautiful Day (The alphabet just had to make me choose between Beautiful Day and Bad now didn't it?)
#3 C) City of Blinding Lights (Crumbs From Your Table may have a cool opening, but COBL has everything else)
#44 D) Do You Feel Loved (Discotheque and Desire competed closely for this spot, but DYFL's chorus did it for me)
#20 E) Electrical Storm (Elevation and EBTTRT may be good, but Electrical Storm towers above them)
#15 F) Fly, The (no competition, being the others were fire and (shudder) Freedom For My People)
#32 G) Gone (though Gloria wasn't far off)
#25 H) Heartland (of course)
#28 I) In God's Country (A close one with IGWSHA, I Will Follow, and ISHFWILF close on it's heels)--freaky acronyms
#^ J) Jupiter Crash (wait, that's a Cure song, never mind)
#9 K) Kite (It would have won even if there was competition)
#41 L) Like A Song... (Lemon almost had this letter, almost, and Last Night On Earth was pretty good too)
#4 M) Miami-NO!!!!!- not Miami, |--^Miracle Drug^--| (Mysterious Ways was pretty close)
#24 N) New Year's Day (no question)
#12 O) Original of the Species (Yes, it actually beat One, amazing isn't it?)
#2 P) Pride (Guitar riff is my answer to anyone placing something before this song)
#^ Q) Questions and Answers (the question being: how many bands have made so many songs so as to fill up the alphabet with the first letter of each song?) -excluding Q-
#42 R) Red Hill Mining Town (why do they never say red hill MINING town in the lyrics?- it's always just red hill town..)
#17 S) Sunday, Bloody Sunday (SYCMIOYO-sounds Japanese- was a close second followed by Stay
#33 T) The Unforgettable Fire (hmm, on account of so many The's I'm going to adopt TUF to this letter)
#10 U) Ultraviolet (beats UTEOTW with flying colors) --I've never seen that acronym before...--
#13 V) Vertigo (hmm, its rank seems kind of high, but it beats Van Diemen's Land with flying colors)--sidenote: how can colors fly?--
#5 W) With Or Without You (Super close competition from Walk On and Window In the Skies here)
#not listed (weird number, huh?) X) Xanax and Wine
#27 Y) Yahweh (am I the only one who likes this song?)
#68 Z) Zoo Station (barely beats Zooropa by 2 places)

I seriously need to stop working so much on trivial matter such as this- anyway hope you enjoyed it.
