Title: How far are you traveling to the concert?
Post by: countrygirl on April 10, 2009, 01:09:13 PM
Just thought it would be interesting to see how far everyone is willing to travel to see U2.

We are driving 7 hours to see them. We are going to make it a 3 day anniversary trip, since we are coming up on 18 years of marriage. Yeah!!!!

I have to go about 140 miles round trip-twice in one weekend.

Good thread idea. Wonder who's travelling the furthest? And who lives across the street from a venue?

Train from Montreal to Toronto.  Could have flown in with my personal plane, but I didn'T want to risk bad weather by the show date, and have to pay ridiculous air fees or Train fees.

Flying across the Atlantic and then on to Wembley - that's a few thousand miles.  The show in Charlottesville, VA, is only a few hours away, and I'm attending that one as well.  You only go around once!   ;D  Congrats to Countrygirl on combining U2 w/ her anniversary.  I hope they play a special song for y'all!

Live in Sheffield, Uk

Going to Sheffield (25 mins)
Wembley (2hrs 30 mins)
Nice (quite a distance, but still in Europe!)

and...

Just got a ticket for Vancouver this week - yesssss.  Not sure how far, but looks a bloody long way on the map.

1148 miles to Chicago and then 522 miles to Toronto... and back.

And dangerous.... it's about 5000 miles from the Easternmost point in North America to Vancouver... plus the distance from Sheffield to there.

I think brisco has us all beat though!

Nah, there's a few aussies going to Dublin shows. They'd be the 'winners' I'd say.

Although if they announce a show in Rejkjavic and some guy from Invercargill, NZ pops along, no more bets.

Anchorage, Alaska to Phoenix, Arizona.

According to Google Maps, a short little drive of 3666 miles. Thankful for airplanes, as it will take us about 8 hours to get from Anchorage to Phoenix.

I am so amped. Maybe the Imax theaters will bring back U2 3D in the cities where they are touring. That would be the ultimate.

It's exciting to read how far people are traveling. I traveled a bit for the last 2 tours, and there's nothing like the excitement of the whole experience and meeting other fans along the way.  Before the tour was announced, I was worried about being able to make it work this year (though I would have found a way).  Then, I was shocked to see Norman on the list of stops.  It was unreal.  This year, I'll be walking or riding my bike about a mile to the show.

I'll be driving to a station 1.5 miles from my house, and then getting on a train (London Underground Jubilee Line) for 8 minutes to Wembley Park, and then I should be at Wembley Stadium 10 minutes after that - so I would hope about 30 minutes door to door!

If I were to drive from home to the stadium (although that would be crazy, given traffic/parking issues), I'm only 6 miles away!

To my credit though, I did fly from London to San Francisco to see U2 at the Oakland Arena in the Vertigo Tour...

San Antonio to Milan for July 7 show (flying via Dublin!). Seeing this show in celebration of our 20th anniversary, taking our 13-year-old to her first concert. Standing should be very interesting; naturally we're hoping to get within close eyeshot.

Then San Antonio to Houston for the Oct. 14 show. Got seats for this one.

Any fan gatherings at either site that anyone knows of? I've never gone to one before.

I Don't want to go negative responding to this, so I will start by saying
The best most powerful "Rock" Concert I ever attended was U2 @ Sundevil Stadium when they filmed
Rattle & Hum. That 1 show cemented U2 as Rock Gods for me ! ! !
Been very loyal since, But I like concerts to be about the Music & generally like Big Rock Production, especially from a group as big as U2 & tickets being so over inflated because they are Big.

Sadly I believe I have lost any desire to see U2 live after Vertigo tour, Too much preaching & I was expecting a tighter production. Bono spent most his time interacting with fans, sometimes missing his cue's. After they put the world human bill of rights on the big screen for 5+ minutes I really coped an attitude. Just growing apart it seems, me & U2.

Tempted to go to the Stadium Tour, maybe they could blow the roof off a joint like that.  ::)  ::)
But too Expensive & the new album NLOTH doesn't seem like it has the songs that are the type
that might have the Ump to do that. ( blow the roof off ! )

I'd say you're reflecting what alot of people are thinking right now.

I must say it is impressive and a sure sign of fan-dom that people are willing to travel thousands of miles just to see U2. Im half thinking of travelling to London - from Dublin - but that'd be it. Maybe it's just me, but seeing them in Dublin is good enough for me. Even if I had the time and money to travel with U2 on their tour, I probably wouldnt.
