Title: Does this mean no N. America again?
Post by: Torontotoad on September 24, 2009, 08:07:31 AM
Seeing the new Euro dates, am disheartened that they start in mid-summer and nothing in N. America mentioned.  Doesnt seem to be much chance for more here....unless they were to announce earlier season dates late....which seems odd.
I know, I just saw the band last week...but cant get enough now....:0
There must be a few more big stadiums this side of pond they could fill...as a Canuck, Montreal comes to mind.
Anyone with reason for optimism?

But it also says "additional dates and cities to be confirmed" . . . and the rumours for North America were more for June/July . . . so don't give up hope yet!

12 August, 2010 AWD Stadium Hannover
15 August, 2010 Stadium Horsens
20 August, 2010 Olympic Stadium Helsinki
25 August, 2010 Luzhniki Moscow
30 August, 2010 Ernst Happel Stadium Vienna
3 September, 2010 Olympic Stadium Athens
6 September, 2010 Ataturk Olympic Stadium Istanbul
15 September, 2010 Olympic Stadium Munich

It's expected that there will be NA dates, the rumours vary, but it may be during the first 6 months of 2010 they will be back there, have patience !

Whats also fairly clear is that the outdoor 360 tickets have sold much faster in Europe. 24 European gigs for leg 1 but only 17 for the U.S.(excluding Canada, which got 3 gigs). It's only natural to go where the most demand is.

Having said that, the U.S. has only recenlty got it's first taste of 360, paving the way for more gigs there, plus there are several places that haven't got 360, places like Denver spring to mind, and most of the west coast also.

I have a feeling we will hear soon, I'm quite sure they are working it out with MLB.

They can just play 20 dates in Winnipeg.  Who's in?

(Bleh, I really don't want to go back to Winnipeg, but if Edge commands it, so be it :P)

relax, there's plenty of time left. After all, the Euro leg could be the end of the tour, with a South America / NZ / Aus / Jap leg for Feb-March and US for April-June.

There were so many non-US people at Giants Stadium GA last night....it's not surprising that ticket sales in Europe are much better than the US.  By the way, most of the foreingers were VERY rude in GA.  No respect for other people's space.

Let's note that these european dates are all for August and September.

That leaves;

7 months open prior to this leg

3 months open after the EU leg

If you ask me, that leaves plenty of room for North and South American dates in 2010.
Title: Re: Does this mean no N. America again?
Post by: tdot1a on September 24, 2009, 09:52:11 AM
exactly - and let's not forget the current NA tour is only two weeks old (!)  Maybe they'd like to play most of this leg or all of it before asking the fans to start splashing out for more tickets.......or they want those close to one of the current leg venues to buy tickets and travel and then hit them again when they come back for another leg in their hometown.

I'm almost certain that Toronto got two shows and nothing in Montreal for this very reason.  The Toronto loyal will probably make the trip to Montreal or East Lansing on the next leg and Live Nation / U2 know this.

I think they will definitely do more shows in N. America prior to the Euro leg and mainly due to logistics but also having had just a fraction of their usual N. American cities.  They've got the three claws on the westcoast at the end of this leg, and they'll need to transport back to Europe.  So say 6 months of touring before Europe and then they'll hit either S.America or Oz.

umm, dude...there's at least 2 other threads discussing the rumored 2010 North American dates. Paul McGuinness himself said that U2 would be playing 2 shows in Mexico City in May 2010.

I try to read the rumors and all but I've not seen any mention of San Francisco or the bay area in even rumored dates.  I'm really tired of all this waiting!  I can't really travel anywhere to see them.

tentative date for the Bay Area is June 22nd in Oakland.

no North America (again)?

Um, aren't they playing North America NOW?

North America gets spoiled and far more U2 shows by number and capacitya nd pro-rata than any other territory in the world on every single one of U2's tours since 1987. When did they last play South Africa (12 years ago)? How often have they toured South America (twice in 32 years)?

Get a grip!

Hey... I live in central Canada and they never play here.  What I do is get on an airplane and fly to see them.  How about you fly to the US?

A Couple questions:

Which side of the country does U2 plan to start their 3rd leg in America? I would assume West Coast in early June, no sense in hauling all of the stages back to the east coast only to have to go back to the West Coast. Opinions?

Obviously no one knows, but when do you estimate U2 will announce the rest of the 2010 dates?

Here are my guesses for the U2's next couple years:

Songs of Ascent released- February/ March 2010

Promotion of new album- March through May 2010

3rd leg begins in San Fransisco- June 2010

3rd leg ends in Miami- Late July 2010

4th leg begins in Europe- August 2010

4th leg ends in Europe- mid October 2010

5th leg beings in Australia- November 2010

5th leg ends in Oceania- December 2010

U2 take 4 months off before heading back to the studio to finish up some work- 2 albums will be released by the end of 2011- another tour (arenas maybe) still in question

I am not sure where I read it but I do remember a possible Giants Stadium date in late July 2010 ???  We'll soon find out as things become official.  If that is true then they will be one of the first acts to play the brand new stadium prior to the first football season there.

Why should I fly to the US to see them when I can fly somewhere a little nearer? The whole point of a tour is that they come near to us, and we go to them.

Interesting, achtung!  Why San Fran?  I think they'll start in Seattle and go down to Oakland, CA, and they may end up back in NY/NJ for the new stadium.
5th leg could be as you state or S. America.

I honestly just randomly chose San Fran, just because they've never opened there before. Seattle is definitely a possibility, but who knows, like we both said, it might just start on the East Coast. Hopefully we'll get some initial dates in the next month or so (although I don't want them to go on sale too soon, I just got done convincing my parents to take me to Chicago for the concerts, no way there going to approve of another trip to see U2 this soon!)

It won't likely start on the East coast given they're finishing this leg in Vancouver but I do think they'll do more shows back east next leg before heading to Europe again -(eg) in NY/NJ and Boston, as well as Chicago, and other cities they haven't played yet.

looks like they're starting in Mexico City in May. Seattle seems to be the 1st US date. I don't know how close you are to Chicago, but Minneapolis, Green Bay, Cleveland and Detroit (E. Lansing, actually) look like they're going to happen. It's a long way off, though, and itineraries can change.

Where are you getting these cities? When will they be in the midwest? What about southern cities? Miami? Jacksonville? Sorry I'm so concerned about the dates, it's just I'm in school until June 9, and if they're coming near me (southern US- Florida) or my hometown (Chicago) I pray I'm off school so I can see them. Thanks.

update: I just bumped one of them - the Eventful thread. check it out! it lists a tentative date of July 13 for Miami.  :)

DITTO - I'm going to Vancouver, BC (can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!) and I only live 3.5 hours from Seattle, so definitely will make that if they come back in 2010.  WOO-HOO.
