Title: Worst media review of a U2 show ever?
Post by: Dream Out Loud on November 23, 2009, 02:37:26 PM
I always thought that 1980 review of a u2 show was the worst i've read (you know the one where the author discusses the "mutant punks" and raves about Echo & the Bunnymen)...but then I just read this Sacramento Bee review from the 1992 ZooTv show.  It's brutal.  The author doesn't seem to get it at all but it still sucks as a review.  I would have been upset to have read this way back when.

Do you guys know of any other negative media reviews? (I don't care about fan reviews here).

(here's the 1980 review - http://u2tours.com/displaymedia.src?ID=19800907&XID=104&Return=)

Yes . . . the Financial Times reviewer had a poor impression of Wembley 2 this summer.  I read his article and wondered if we had been to the same gig.  Sometimes, critics really are critics.

Terrible review yes, but you have to remember that this "critic" was by no means alone in his dismay at the direction the ban took. I Personally had to endure many, many hours of die hard fans weeping over how the band had changed form those four oh so serious Amish boys into...rock stars! (egad!)

I guess he forgot that U2 had a tour called lovetown that ended in 1990.

that was the thing on Zoo TV.  even the old songs were played new ways.  so it was easy to pi*s people off.

little did that critic realize that he was witnessing one of the all-time great tours.  buffoon.
