This may sound like a stretch, but i think it may be the case.

REcent albums have included bible references, chapter and verse.  Bono has admitted as much with the J33 on the ATYCLB cover, etc.

UNO/ONE:  first testament
DOS/TWO: second book
TRES/THREE: third chapter
CATORCE/14: 14th verse

which=Exodus 3:14, where God reveals his name, Yahweh, or I AM.

If you see the notes fpr the book included in the album, Bono's scribbles make mush of this name.  Of course the last song is named by this name..and "All because of you, I AM" as well.

kudos to you.....CSI has nothing on you!

either one of Bono's biggest codes was just cracked or he to this day hasn't even had any idea of such a coincidence  :D  I think the latter is more likely but the former is a really cool idea! Maybe I'll choose to believe it  :P

I too believe it's a reference to Jesus.

Haha I know this isn't the real meaning, but I always had my own personal take on this.

The song takes place at a club.. And I always thought about how when you're out at a bar/club you start to have a few drinks and before you know it, you've had way too many.

One, Two, Three...... Fourteen!   ;)

That's a good way of putting it... xD

I don't think it was a mistake. Bono has enough people around him to correct him. Although they did get the shooting of MLK wrong in Pride so anything can happen.

It's pretty clear what bono was trying to do. The song is called vertigo - vertigo is a fear of heights or a big drop.

So, 1, 2, 3.... 14

3 to 14 is suggesting a sudden change or drop.

... I have never thought of that in this context.

Good job!  :D

This topic made for a such a good read, I joined the community.  No posts here in 120+ days but I'll take a chance this might be seen.

My 2c on "Uno, dos, tres, catorce!"

If  you've got a good beat going, "catorce" makes more sense than "quatro."

Uno
Dos
Tres
Catorce

sounds a lot better than

Uno
Dos
Tres
Quatro

And besides.   Catorce is just more fun to say. It's got a nice beat all on its own. :D

Bono hates saying "Catorce!". It's too difficult for him.

He said so himself, in an interview before a gig in Spain.

He even asked the (Spanish) interviewer for an easier number,
so the guy said "Quince!" (fifteen). Bono said: "Ok, I'll sing that tonight",
and thus it was, that night in Spain: "Uno, Dos, Tres, Quince!".

The guy was there, broadcasting the concert, and couldn't believe
that Bono had remembered, and changed Vertigo's intro only for him.

As for the meaning of those numbers, I think the "sudden drop" perspective,
and the "alcohol excess" perspective are very interesting. But if you consider U2's
lyrics as a whole, and specially the lyrics on HTDAAB ("...all because of you, I AM..."),
it becomes clear that the "Bible reference" (to the place where God first says His name),
is the best explanation. And a genius subliminal message, too.

I think he was only trying to show up his Spanish fluency, no particular meaning for #14 following the #3... it's also known that Latin words in English songs sound more caliente, I mean hot, so he was trying to be hot as many other were in the past such as Madonna, Spice Girls, to name a few. Ah, and don't you forget Edge saying Ola ... waw

I insist...

 1  - First Testament
 2  - Second Book
 3  - Third Chapter
14 - 14th Verse

Exodus 3:14

The place in the Holy Bible where God says his name for the first time,
which is "Yahweh" (last song on the album), or "I Am" (chorus of "All Because Of You").

If any doubt remains, ask yourself Who else could be teaching Bono "how to kneeeel..."  ;)

really well done, it makes all sense. It can be a subliminar way Bono uses to evangelize, however I still believe there is no special purpose on these specific numbers for This specific song  ;) All the Best / Saudações from Brazil
